Big thanks to the Sun-Sentinel's Harvey Fialkov and all who individually submitted the link.

Should have clarified: these are all players who have gone pro; not juniors or “below”, so save the brickbats regarding Gudbranson, Bjugstad, etc.

They also rank the Panthers as having the 2nd best prospect pool, behind only Los Angeles.
Just wondering, they have Bjugstad as a better prospect then Howden. Just looking at stats, Bjugstad had 8g 12a in 28 games with University of Minnesota while Howden had 40g 39a in 60 games with Moose Jaw. I mean college and the OHL have thier differences, but I cant see how Bjugstad is better just looking at numbers.

Drew Shore had 23g 23a in 40 games this year too and he’s supposedly #11 on their rankings. How is he not as good as Bjugstad??? Unless someone can explain the discrepancy here I’m taking these reports with a grain of salt…

Once upon a time, they had Olesz listed as the second coming of Jagr, before giving Frolik that moniker. HF is a farce for the majority, but have a couple quality writers who have an eye for hockey.

It has to do with interpreting translatable skillsets to the NHL level. Not every point per game player in college has brought that ability to the NHL* not to mention there is more to a player than what they can do with the puck in the offensive zone. Shore has some things he needs to work on but this past season was great and something promising to build off of.
*The only ones I can think of that did were Kariya and Morrison Drury. Even then I think most of those 3 had 80+ seasons. I know Kariya had like 100 points in 1 season.

And I’m always reminded of Sejna—the kid tore it up, had a ton of points and never could crack the NHL on a permanent basis. I think Shore is a great prospect, but I can understand why he’s not exactly coveted by others at this point in his career.

They are really different types of players— a lot of it has to do with projections and not necessarily how they’re excelling now. Bjugstad’s size is a big factor in all of this and in the WHL I believe they’d have comparable stats if only because of Bjugstad’s presumed ability to physically dominate downlow (which I question a little bit—but against a couple 140lb 15 year old 5-gamers? He’d be like Conan (the barbarian not the talk talk show host haha).

Thanks! For as much info there is on these guys, I can never seem to get a clear opinion. Sometimes my Fox sports channel shows DU college games, I’ll have to do some scouting on my own for Shore

Size and Skill Set
Granted, Q was a steal at #25. To me the bigger steal was Zach Hyman at #127. Time will tell.
Bjugstad is just a monster. Should he make the NHL and we surely expect him to, he will probably be the biggest, strongest and still one of the most skilled centers in the league. I just hope he develops the grit to complete the package!! No one really knows who will make it to the big time, especially when you are picking young 18 year old kids. But you increase your chances when you select a guy with such an upside. It is for this reason they selected him first.
Q was obviously still very close in their viewfinder showing how they moved up and dealt Ballard to nab him!
