Bruins defeat Canucks 4-0 in Game 7 of Stanley Cup Final
A terrific Cup Final results in a Boston victory after seven games...with the only road win - by either club - coming at the hands of Bruins captain Zdeno Chara. Congrats- and thanks - to both the Bruins and Vancouver Canucks on providing hockey fans throughout the world with a seriously classic series.
Hometown editorial goodness can be found here (BOS) and here (VAN).
No, the Draft has not been postponed, nor has UFA Day. Hang in there.
Our obligatory poll, geared toward Panthers Faithful - on this, the final night of the 2010-11 season - is relatively simple. Still like to hear from you regarding ex-Cats in the NHL's showcase event.

So be honest...
was this really that great of a series? I know, 7 games. But total score was 23-8… Games 1 and 2 were awesome, but even in those, and the 5 after, Vancouver just never really looked like a team that could beat the Bruins, even though they did once more. Full credit to that grinding, eastern conference mentality, dragging the skill team down and elevating the “team” depth of Boston. The biting, the ridiculous finger in the face taunt after every whistle. The unnecesarry overreaction 4 game suspension on the Horton hit. The stupid after the whistle crap all series long. The Sedins disappeared. Luongo couldn’t find his game. I know 7 games is supposed to be great and all, and yes, Thomas was outstanding, but when Boston’s 4 wins were by a combined 17 goals…
Maybe its just the letdown of a crappy game 7 that’s getting to me. Even Boston’s 3 goals in the cup clincher were unexciting. A half shot one time from out of 3 sets of skates that Luongo never even moved on until it was in the net. A wraparound that Lu stopped…and then gloved into his own net. And a semi-breakaway that didn’t really result in a shot on goal, the puck just kind of ended up in the net. I dont know, maybe I need to go set some cars on fire and I’ll feel better…
Just sad to watch, yet somehow felt inevitable (even if they’d won). Listening to the TV anchors and the few fans they’d actually interviewed, they sound legitimately embarrassed and ashamed this was happening in their town. It’s hard not to group the couple hundred idiots into the greater city of hundreds of thousands of Canucks fans… but it’s not pretty.
At least they’re rioting after a loss. Not after they won the Cup like Montreal did back in 94. Or a few other cities have in other sports since.
I find it ironic, that the city of Vancouver wanted the UFC to hire more police and security for their show last Saturday, and the city said the hockey fans weren’t as much of a problem. Nothing came of the UFC show, but a game 7 loss?

This is why they should move the beginning of the season to September, becuase then the latest possible game would have been in May and raining/snowing. Who wants to riot in the snow?

Riots were just unbelievable. This is why no team in Canada deserves to win the cup. Even if they would’ve won, they would’ve rioted because they would’ve been so damn drunk. Aside from that, I thought it wasn’t as good as last year’s final game, but this year’s at least showed Thomas being boss.

Just a small selection I could find links for, I'm sure there are more.

Bonus point for the “American City” bashing in that last link.
Claiming that no team in Canada deserves to win the cup, is baseless. The team has nothing to do with the hooligans who follow them. Look at the two seasons where the canes and the lighting won the cup. They faced two different Canadian teams from two different Canadian Cities, and their was no riots. The team who plays the best in the playoffs, is the one who deserves to in the Cup regardless of the city which they are located in. Being Canadian myself, i find it despicable what the citizens of Vancouver did. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I’ve never said a team doesn’t deserve to win the cup because they’re Canadian. Let’s all remember that next summer when people in Quebec City and Hamilton, ON start saying the Phoenix doesn’t deserve a team because they play in a non-Legacy market.
the comment wasn’t towards you but flpanther360. South Florida is a 100 times better than Hamilton. It has to be the worst Hockey town in the world. In Toronto we call it the armpit of Ontario. I have worked in the Hamilton arena, and the attendance there is appalling.

Now there is something that doesn’t get much play among the MSM.

Ahem
The people of Ottawa would not be rioting over wining the cup. That would mean that something is actually happening after 9 pm in Ottawa.

The correct answer to me is Campbell – Horton never wanted to be here, Seidenberg was here for about three months. Campbell is the only player that was at least liked by the fan-base.
Horton did want to be here. He stated as such, before being drafted by the Panthers 3rd overall, the Panthers were his favorite team. Years of losing due to a poor ownership/ management team changes a person’s views. I’d be more worried/unhappy about a player who stays here for years, not caring about winning a cup, or is content to just be in the NHL. Yeah Olesz, this goes out to you.

Disappointed
I was more disappointed in Luongo’s poor showing the final two games than anything else. Glad to see Campbell do well and win a cup. Not happy at all for Horton. Seidenberg just adds another star to Germany’s summer champions.
Bleh
The series was bleh. I wanted Loungo to win a cup but Thomas was well deserving. Too bad Horton got one..
I also hear nhl12 has a winter classic mode but I heard a rumor if you get to the cup finals and loose with a canadien team it allows you to play a bonus mode where you and burn cars in the city and throw rocks through glass.

You know, not that I like the idea of Horton having his name on the Cup, but I guess this is the moment we should just let him go. Once he recovers from the concussion he we’ll only see him 4 times a year max. So this is goodbye Nathan!
