Miami Winter Classic?
If the Panthers were to realize the full potential of the rebuild and emerge as an NHL powerhouse would it be crazy to host a Winter Classic in South Florida? The Los Angeles Kings held an outdoor exhibition game in 80 degree weather in Las Vegas in 1991. The Panthers could host the game in Marlins Ballpark which has the added benefit of running its A/C even when the roof is open. Heck the game could even have a Latin flavor to it showing that the game of hockey can spread regardless of the culture or surroundings. Maybe after all these cold weather cities get their games then the NHL may look for a unique game scenario like this.

Voted Toronto. Stick it to the man in 100 (whatever the average high for New Years day is in Miami) heat.

I picked New York
For many reasons. Original 6 team. Lots of New York transplants around here. NBC would love it. South Florida teams have had many heated battles against New York teams. Dolphins/Jets, Heat/Knicks, Marlins/Mets-Yankees, and even the Panthers have faced the Rangers in the playoffs. The location has historical purpose. Situated where the Orange Bowl once stood. Home to the other team Huizenga started. And a view of downtown Miami where the Cats used to play.

Its not 100 lol
Miami average high in January is 76, low is 59. If we get one of those freak cold snaps the game may be plausible.

Tampa
If hockey is going to grow in Miami, it needs a rival.

Nothing like owning Central Florida. All 4 of South Florida’s franchises have winning records against Central Florida’s 4.

I’d of course love to see a TB-FLA game (in either area). Realistically NBC will eventually get their Rangers appearance.
The Winter Classic garners relatively tremendous ratings in South Florida (especially WPB) and indeed “grows” the sport elsewhere.
Cats/Bolts certainly aren’t a national draw outside of the sport’s diehards; I’m not opposed to sticking with the bigger markets. For now.

Stamkos isn’t on the level of Crosby and Ovechkin yet?

Not after he stalled down the stretch.

Still played more games than Crosby this season and had more points than Ovechkin.

Lecavlier has been in the league a decade now, and never been the draw Crosby or Ovechkin is, even in his best days. Fact of the matter is, his market sucks for tv ratings. You don’t see mass migrations of Tampa fans to the Northeast, Canada, or the Midwest for winter. You don’t see Tampa fans that have lived for 30-40 years being ingrained with the diehard fan mentality. Most Tampa fans have had a former allegiance to other teams, similar to the Panthers and most sunbelt teams. Crosby or Ovechkin on a sunbelt team would greatly decrease their marketability, unless they were part of a dynasty team, like the Isles or Edmonton in the 80’s.

So shouldn’t Henrik Lundqvist be the most marketable goalie in hockey then?

Thank you
Thought it would be a stark contrast from the frozen looking logos of the past. Put a lot of emphasis on the tropical colors.

Would love to see that on a T-shirt. Good job.
It's always a great day or night for hockey - no matter the time or place!
Thank you.
