2011-2012 NHL Schedule Released; Cats Start Season On the Road
The NHL released the 2011-2012 regular season schedule today, and it looks like the Panthers will start the season on the road against the New York Islanders.
The Cats schedule looks to be a pretty tough run in October, with seven of their first eleven games against playoff teams from a season ago. Also notable: the Panthers will play against their new division rivals (!!), the Winnipeg NoNames at home on October 31, and in Winnipeg on November 10. It's going to be interesting to see how the Winnipeg travel will affect Southeast teams this coming season... Winnipeg included.
The NHL has some pretty big featured games to roll out the new season in October, including a triple-header on opening night, October 6: Flyers vs. Bruins, Maple Leafs vs. Canadiens, and Penguins vs. Canucks. Should be a great night for all hockey fans as those should be some exciting games to start a new season.
NOTE: The Cats preseason schedule is not yet available as of the time of the original post; however, I will update as soon as it's available. We know for sure that at least two games are against Tampa Bay, as shown by the preseason schedule over at Raw Charge, but we'll have to wait a bit to see the rest.

Overall though, schedule is pretty fair. The home closer will once again be the final game of the season and it’ll be against Carolina. Should be a very fun way to end of the (regular) season and hopefully knock-on-wood a great end of game to lead into the Panthers return to the playoffs!

Cool
Now we can all plan accordingly. I’m probably going to the 2 Penguins games. And it seems only 1 game is happening the same day the Dolphins do if the NFL does play. And 2 games when the Canes are playing.

GR over at On Frozen Pond posted something I found interesting too:
“Even though Michael Yormark promised angry season ticket holders that the Canadiens would not be the New Year’s Eve opponent, they are.”
Cause he would want to miss out on that money maker of day? No Way.

There goes Carter. Traded to the Blue Jackets for Voracek, a 1st round 8th overall pick and a 3rd round pick.

quick glance
A few trips through the schedule and I see….
The longest homestand is four games (four times)
The longest road trip is four games (twice)
There are two home-and home series, both with Tampa
There are 14 back to back sets (one is a home-and-home with Tampa)
Of the back to backers: nine are entirely on the road, three are home/away, two are all at home.
My counts may be wrong, YMMV, to not expose to direct sunlight, call your doc if it lasts more than four hours, etc.
Flyers are rebuilding?
Anyone know why?

Playoff inconsistency? Not a good reason for a complete overhaul though

Puckdaddy says chemistry issues. But Spectacor/Comcast is selling the 76’s, so who knows. Flyers have been Snider’s baby from the start.

I mentioned to Ryan earlier today that it seems rather odd the FLA pre-season schedule has not been released as yet, when it appears every other club has done so.
Leads me to believe only one thing: they’re hunting for a sponsor.

Well not every club, but quite a few.

So pissed, and I mean SOOOOOO pissed. I was hoping, BEGGING, to open the season at home against the Isles, so I could plane a bachelor’s party around a hockey game and then the strip clubs. But no, I get an away game to open the season against the Isles. Bastards. Wedding is following weekend and the groom and best man (brothers) are both MAJOR Islander fans (God help them). This was a worse tease than having lesbian twin sisters in the champagne room, grinding on you.
I dont even know where to start on this…
