Deal for Smyth finally done

The Oilers announced Sunday that they had re-acquired Smyth from the Los Angeles Kings, to whom he had been traded in 2009.

The wait is finally over! After much speculation and talk during the NHL Draft this past weekend Ryan Smyth will finally be returning to Edmonton.

In return the Kings recieve C Colin Fraser and a 7th round pick in 2012. Obviously this deal has been in the works for a few days and in my opinion I think Edmonton gets a steal on this one. Fraser played for the Blackhawks the previous 3 years, winning The Stanley Cup with them in 2010. Career wise he has registered 16 goals, 25 assists for 41 points in 224 NHL games.

Edmonton once again improves itself in the forward position and Smyth gets his wish. Congrats to him!

Personally I love this deal, because it makes the Oilers better, yet with their lack of defense (barring trades or free agency) I don't picture them getting into the playoffs, however they will be good enough to ensure they don't pick #1 overall for a third year in a row.
