I don’t see a lot of good news in that update. The Guds situation is troubling. It’s been a year already. Maybe he thinks he can do what Erixon did and pick his team?
We’ve got a year on Gudbranson. There is absolutely no rush.

I like and appreciate the guy’s talents and abilities as much as anyone else here, but I fail to see how/why Florida MUST sign him immediately.
He “belongs” to the Panthers for one more year; if the Cats feel he’s better off elsewhere in that time (i.e. the OHL) they will make that call.
Considering they need to spend a billion bones on players in 2011-12 – which will provide enough of an upgrade on D to hold the fort – getting him under contract with the thought of a guaranteed roster spot is not their priority at present.
Or maybe I’m wrong…

I’d prefer to see him signed, of course. But he’s not a shoo-in for the lineup under either circumstance.

They can sign him now and still send him back to the OHL. Jovanovski was signed, sealed, and delivered, but spent another year with the Spitfires before coming to sunny south Florida. Having him signed is more about not being rushed to do it next off season, and it gives him more hope to make the tea in the preseason. It doesn’t guarantee it, but makes him work for his first payday.

I’d like to know, if Dineen doesn’t want to retain Murphy as an assiitant, will Gord be willing to be the man callin the shots in the AHL? Some grooming, if you will.
I don’t know; he’s been in the bigs for a while now; he’s got to be one of the better defensive coaches in the league (witness last year).

Dale is extremely high on Gudbranson. I think there is no doubt a deal will get done. And I also think he can crack the 2011-12 lineup. We desperately need a leader and this kid is exactly that. I think someone would have to give up way too much for Dale to give away the Guds.
