Limited.. and not going to be announced until I am not near a computer … I’m officially pouting about the super exciting thing Donny has hidden up his sleeve..

Be impeccable with your word, don't take anything personally, don't make assumptions, always do your best...
You will most likely not be left out if you want in, it is limited, but I think you will be be fine if you see it by tomorrow, so turn that frown upside down :-)
It’s limited, but not quite that limited.

That’s really cool that Dale Tallon & Mike Santos are doing a meet & greet with Rampage fans. That says a lot about how their plans there and is completely different from the last few years in Rochester.

This, btw, is worth listening to. They have an archived/podcast edition of the show available. The interview with one of the guys on the Rangers beat was pretty good as well.
What gets me is the call-in people. How many people in Winnipeg were actually watching the Thrashers last season? Apparently more than one would think.

Yawn Same ole garbage from people who think they know everything about hockey and how it should be run. Hockey does really have some “snooty” fans. In truth most people in Canada would love to have this current team (Panthers) in their city.
A lil thunder and a lil lightning is what the Cats are going to bring this year.
Believe it when you hear talk from the local reporters. Those guys are just blowing smoke. Atlanta’s moved so the focus is back on us for a while. They’ll all be back looking at Phoenix soon because they are in trouble. After they move, they’ll be looking at us up until the team can fill the building again or there’s another low hanging fruit.

If this is a rebuild – if the Panthers fans themselves are selling this point – then how does anyone, much less FIFTY-SIX people (at last count), think this is a 100+ point team?
I think a better question would be… How does a team that has done nothing in the off season to improve their team (when they were only marginally better than Florida last year to begin with) think in any way think that they’re better than Florida who actually has taken huge efforts to bring in talent, improve the lineup and depth etc..?
Seems to me like some fans are delusional yes, but it happens more so North of the border then it does South.
93 points next season, I’d put any money down on it.

Weiss. Lets see that man with line mates…remember, he barely played with our best goal scorer last year, booth.
Definitely. Weiss should be in that list. He’s a setup guy, but he can score too. With three guys that can play point on the power play (Campbell, Jovo, Kuli) look for Weiss to get some PPGs this year.

That’s so not a joke. A lot of these guys have probably never been on their own before and likely don’t know how to cook or shop for food. Eating healthy is important for everyone and most people can’t be bothered. It’s especially important for athletes (or anyone else who does a lot of strenuous activity at work). You aren’t going to make the NHL if you eat at Taco Bell every day like a lot of college students or kids who are college age.
Joke if you want, but it’s nice to see that the team is trying to give these kids the tools for success off the ice as well as on.

I sold those bastages in the 90’s a lot of their food. I sold Paul Laus and his new bride a cake the day word first got out in 95 that they were gonna sign a CBA. I taught Murphy how to grille lobster tails, when he was shopping for food one morning with his kids after a game in St Louis then night before. I used to see those guys all the time, and they didn’t eat too healthy back then. A few others spent more time in the Whale’s Rib, since Robbie Nieds was datting the owner’s daughter (and a classmate of mine in high school), than they did on the ice. I was out and about Boca a lot back then, when they all lived in the area, and spent plenty of time with them. They didn’t eat healthy. They did drink a lot of beer on the golf courses tho.

Totally agreed, I read somewhere, I think it was GR that the team is having the prospects attending camp visit a whole bunch of different helpful folks, nutritionist included. I really like the direction that the Panthers have been showing to us this year, looking much more professional and considered and a whole heck of a lot less slap-dash crazy than in years past.
Wasn’t laughing because I thought the advice wasn’t valuable, just laughing because it makes me think of summer sleep away camp and whatnot.

You’re missing the Isles and Devils in your list, and as it stands now, the Isles have about as much chance of moving for the 12-13 season, as the Panthers do. Even if they fail to get their arena lease, its speculated they’re gonna finish out the deal before moving, which will be like 2015.

WOW... sometimes I am embarassed to be a Canadian Hockey fan
Wow, today is not a Panthers love in in Canada with Spec and the WPG people.
What gets me is that Winnipeg got their team, (and I am honestly excited about it here in Saskatchewan, not as excited as I am for the Panthers season though) but they need to lay off my Panthers… Phoenix likely will be in Quebec next year, so what is the point in carrying on about how our Panthers need to be moved north. Where they gonna put them? Saskatoon?? We cant support an NHL team in Saskatchewan…. South Florida would honestly do better…
I really think that the world will be surprised at how well supported the team will be by you guys down there this year. I am a great feeling about it! And look forward to coming down with my wife in the next few years to take in a game at the BAC.
Truth is maybe our goaltending is not the best it was, but it is still very good. Better than what they have in Toronto, Edmonton and maybe even Ottawa. Plus all this could motivate Theo to get back on track. This is the thing about hockey, it doesnt take much sometimes to flip from 60 points to 90 points. I feel this Panthers team has the depth and character to pull off a 90 some point season and grab anywhere from 6th to 8th place.
Who says the Panthers can’t pull off a shocker like Tampa Bay, Colorado, Phoenix or Philadelphia have recently… they all underwent overhauls in past years and shot straight up the standings.
In any event, these days they still chuckle when I say I am a Panthers fan here… and I still say, see if you think its so strange in 3 years…. I stick to my word that we will be a powerhouse by then….
BTW....
LOVING the twittering going back and forth between Huber and Grimaldi… potential future linemates? (I hope Dineen gives them a shot together in preseason this year)

Here you go
It is permissible for a prospective student-athlete or a currently enrolled student-athlete to try out with a professional team, provided the following conditions are met:
1. Prior to collegiate enrollment: A student-athlete remains eligible in a sport even though, prior to enrollment in a collegiate institution, the student-athlete may have tried out with a professional athletics team in a sport or received not more than one expense-paid visit from each professional team (or a combine including that team), provided such a visit did not exceed 48 hours and any payment or compensation in connection with the visit was not in excess of actual and necessary expenses. A self-financed tryout may be for any length of time.
2. Tryout after collegiate enrollment: A student-athlete shall not try out with a professional athletics team in a sport or permit a professional athletics team to conduct medical examinations during any part of the academic year (i.e., from the beginning of the fall term through completion of the spring term, including any intervening vacation period) while enrolled in a collegiate institution as a regular student in at least a minimum full-time academic load, unless the student-athlete has exhausted eligibility in that sport. The student-athlete may try out with a professional organization in a sport during the summer or during the academic year while not a full-time student, provided the student-athlete does not receive any form of expenses or other compensation from the professional organization.
Please note that during a tryout, an individual may not take part in any outside competition (games or scrimmages) as a representative of that professional team. [Emphasis added].

The rules are actually interesting. They’re not allowed to give textbooks to the players, so the athletic department buys them and then the athletes have to return them at the end of the year or they get charged (half price) for them. The athletic buyback was always a nightmare. They had so many, they had to box them up and bring them on a pallet.

I may be biased but...
I think this team is a lot better. Good enough to make the playoffs better. So would some one tell me why all the articles I’m reading about this team seem to suggest and some just blatantly say that this team will not make the post season. I’m not a hockey expert or anything of the sort, just a fan for 15 years or so and I think they have enough talent to do so. Am I missing something?
take these broken wings and learn to fly again, learn to live so free...
You’re missing two things:
1. Some people see different players and collections of players differently and think that next year’s team is a collection of the players’ stats from last year, making the team only marginally better from a goals scored perspective. That doesn’t take into account things like motivation, atmosphere, player improvement or things like David Booth needing basically a year to rehab from his concussions.
2. Some people just have a hate-on for the Panthers, as someone put it earlier. No matter what, they’re going to say the Panthers are crap. Because they play in Florida. And they’re jealous that they’re not part of the 1/4 of Quebec and Ontario that can afford to winter here.

I hope this group of guys really come together quick. Hope Booth is completely healthy. Hope Weiss finally has some top notch assets around him too. I’m personally going to miss Vokoun but man, watching Flash or Booth or Upshall bury a puck is much more exciting to me than a flashy save. We’ll see. Go Cats, Go!
take these broken wings and learn to fly again, learn to live so free...
You’re missing a third thing…
Most hockey experts are expecting Theodore to implode under the heavy workload expected of him, now that he can no longer use his Grecian Formula for his bald spots. And sadly, I think this will be the Panthers downfall later in the year, and a reason Markstrom gets rushed into the NHL this season, even if he isn’t ready. Clemmer gettin traded.

I hate that the Winnipeg fans think the “thrashers” are a better team then Florida panthers just cause they moved a crap team to canada. I was upset ATL moved but happy for Winnipeg. Just turns out there all a bunch of assholes who think there better then us just because there in Canada!!
by CatNipp on Jul 14, 2011 7:41 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
The Panthers should be better than Jets this year. People in Winnipeg are a little punch drunk at getting a team back right now. They have done nothing to improve in the offseason so far while the Panthers have improved more than any other team in the league. I know I’m a little biased but I don’t think it’s even close when it comes to raw improvement, the Panthers did the most hands down this offseason.
I’d say the Caps improved the most, but Florida did quite well for themselves, even if they did overspend on a couple contracts. As for the Cats being better than the Jets, it remains to be seen. They’re certainly not much better on paper than the Florida roster, although they’ll argue otherwise. I read yesterday somewhere that WPG fans are predicting Evander Kane to have a 70 point season, which was pretty funny. Everyone sees their team through fan goggles and it’s just hard to make sense of it all sometimes.
All the smacktalk and banter is just hot air until the season starts, and we start seeing how the teams play and win.
