I think its pretty straight foward. It gives us depth in scoring on all lines. Makes the Fourth line have to earn time for younger guys. Though Matthias was playing a good two way game at times, he has to show that he has a scoring touch to move up. I was none to impressed with Skille outside of his hitting. Lastly Dadnov will provide scoring to that line. He may be able to be switched with Bergenheim.

The defense mixes in one tooth loosening line, one scoring line and one average shut down line.

by Ad1zzl3 on Jul 2, 2011 8:25 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Move Dadonov up to the 2nd; Flash down to 3rd and Scottie’s down on the bang line. And not sure I don’t see Ellerby earning a spot here. I think they sign Guds and he will start things off in SA. Kuli/Eller combo is sweet! Soupy & the Cop.

If Ellerby doesn’t earn a spot, then he’ll have to go through waivers in order to be called up since his deal is a one way.

Yes and no. Yes, movement will require waivers, but that’s because of his age and number of NHL games played. A one-way deal just means that if he gets sent to the AHL, he gets the same money as if he’s playing for the Panthers. However, in return for giving him the one-way deal, he agreed to a salary that’s under the amount that would subject him to recall waivers.

I think Howden may be the surprise of camp and makes the team. I think Matthias’s upside helps him win the battle with Skille/Repik/Kennedy. I also think barring the unforeseen, there is little change in defensive pairings from last season.

Only wingers we have, that haven’t played the right side with regularity, are Booth and Bergenheim, so that makes for a lot of different possibilities. Only thing that might keep Skille on the NHL roster, is that he’s one of the lone right handed shots.

We’re pretty close Mr. O. Only surprise on your list is having Garrison as the odd man out on the defensive side; I would think that due to his size, Mike Weaver might be the press box seat warmer.

Fleischmann – Weiss – Versteeg
Booth – Santorelli – Upshall
Bergenheim – Goc – Dadonov
Kopecky – Matthias – Skille

Campbell – Garrison
Jovanovski – Ellerby
Kulikov – Weaver

The top line has some serious scoring potential, the second line is fast as it gets on this team, the third line is a bunch of hard-working players with a scoring touch on each wing and the fourth line is big bodies with skill. I didn’t include Huberdeau, Howden, or any of the picks from the last two drafts because I don’t think the Cats management will rush them. I didn’t include Repik, Kennedy, or any of the current AHL guys because I believe Santos will keep them in San Antonio to give the team a serious roster.

As for the D, I like Campbell and Garrison together, two very good shooters and both have great wheels, although Campbell is much more likely to jump up into the play. Jovo will provide a solid pair with Ellerby, hopefully bringing Ellerby full-circle in his growth and ensuring he locks down a roster spot and a contract extension. Lastly, Kulikov and Weaver are as solid a third pairing as you’re gonna get. There’s still a chance Gudbranson can’t let the team demote him again with his play, so if he sticks, look for Mike Weaver to possibly sit.

by Ryan Meier on Jul 2, 2011 10:10 AM EDT reply actions

like your forward lines

I think you hit the nail on the head with forwards but Kulikov third pairing? that kid is ready to breakout. He was looking really good when the rest of the team was garbage after the deadline.

by Todd Little on Jul 2, 2011 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Honestly there’s so much depth at D, the third pairing is as good as the first.

by Ryan Meier on Jul 2, 2011 1:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I think it’s going to matter less than it has because of this. I expect that Dineen will be able to roll lines and D pairings pretty well given the way the talent is spread out now. Which means less fatigued players down the stretch. And maybe fewer injuries.

THIS IS WHAT THEY SHOULD BE . . . SERIOUSLY

                 LW C RW
LINE 1: BOOTH WEISS VERSTEEG (no questions here)

LINE 2: FLEISHMANN SANTORELLI DADONOV (this russian kid can score)

LINE 3: BERGENHEIM GOC KOPECKY (three genuine grinders, great line)

LINE 4: UPSHALL MATTHIAS SKILLE (fantastic energy here)

D1: JOVANOVSKI CAMPBELL (sets an example/has offense and reliable on D)

D2: KULIKOV ELLERBY (showed great potential together last season)

D3: GUDBRANSON WEAVER (garrison misses out if guds is signed)

G1: THEODORE (i believe should be designated starter)

G2: CLEMMENSON (should still start around 30 games for the year though)

huberdeay should be given another year in juniors, he needs to physically mature and shouldn’t be rushed into things like we’ve done with the majority of top prospects in the past. he’s going to be spectacular though when he makes the team for 2012-13!

Good Line pairings

1: Booth, Weiss, Versteeg
2: Upshall, Santorelli, Dadonov
3: Fleishmann, Matthias, Skille
4: Bergenheim, Goc, Kopecky

D1: Jovanovski, Kulikov
D2: Campell, Gudbranson
D3: Weaver, Ellerby

Booth-Weiss-Versteeg
Flash-Kopecky-Dadonov
Bergenheim-Santorelli-Upshall
Matthias-Goc-Skille
McArdle

Wild cards are Kennedy, Huberdeau & Howden, though I think Howden will go to juniors and Kennedy will start in SA and be first call-up. Him or Repik. McArdle will sit in the press box breathing down Skille’s neck waiting for a shot to take his place.

Campbell-Jovo
Kulikov-Ellerby
Garrison-Weaver

Since the defense coach is returning, I think that unless they have a compelling reason to not play Campbell and Jovo, we’ll see last year’s pairings back together because they worked. If Guds makes the team, all bets are off, but someone’s sitting in the press box. Probably Ellerby.

Theodore
Clemmensen

Call-ups:
Markstrom
Plante

I think they’re going to start with a 22 or 23 man lineup and make guys fight for ice time early in the season. Once things settle, they may send guys back, but I think there’s always going to be someone waiting to take a spot. Also, if Gudbranson makes the team, there’s still a good chance he gets sent back to juniors if he regresses, so they’re not going to trade anyone, someone will sit until they’re needed. They’re better off with Ellerby or Weaver or Garrison sitting in the press box than having to call up someone from SA if they need to send Guds back.

hmmm

I think too many you think this is 90’s. Jovo first pair defenseman? I don’t think so.
While I do think he will help out and don’t mind having on the team, I think he was the worst of the signings yesterday. Personally I would have been fine with bringing in a lower priced vet guy or even no one at all. The D was looking good to begin with and that was with Guds unsigned.

He’s certainly been fighting injuries the last few years; I’m not certain how many here realize that.

not sure

about Dadonov as a second liner either. Eight goals doesn’t earn you that spot. He showed some good flashes last season but he still has a lot to prove. I hope he can earn a top six spot but we’ll see. Lots of potential 20 goal guys on the team now. They should be able to roll out three lines that can score consistently and a fourth line that can chip in offensively.

p.s. upshall and versteeg can be switched, either way it’d be 2 good top lines, im just really high on upshall. and to get dadonov in the top 3 lines i’d have to put kopecky at center. i cant imagine any of upshall/versteeg/booth/fleischmann playing on anything less than the top 2 lines. dadonov looks very promising but i wouldnt put him above versteeg or upshall. he looks fine on the 3rd and we can run 4 strong lines for once. if santo clause is resigned and dads stays in the lineup, then unless a trade happens at some point i dont see any room for huberdeau or howden. maybe if santo doesnt resign they could have huberdeau as the 2nd line center but thats even if they decide to play him at center and not LW.

I left out a lot of the AHL and junior/collegiate level guys because it’s my opinion management will not rush them, a sentiment echoed many times by Tallon and Santos. I did revise the list a bit for you though; I added Matt Bradley, Kendall McArdle, and some of the other AHL guys that have seen time in a Cats sweater.

However, if you feel that any of them not on the list are in fact good enough in your mind to crack the line-up full time, by all means list them in your lineup!

by Ryan Meier on Jul 3, 2011 2:14 PM EDT up reply actions

took me long enough.. lol

Of all the folks on the board I am probably the one with the least amount of true knowledge, research and skill in putting together the line ups, however I’m always up for putting in my 2cents!
Here it goes:

Tomas F/Weiss/ Versteeg
Bergie/Goc/Upshall
Booth/Kennedy/Bradly
Kopecky/Santorelli/Dadonov

Jovo/Campbell
Weaver/Garrison
Kuli/Ellerby

I don’t think Matthias is going to be back to 100% in camp. I also don’t think that Mr. Tallon is going to push Guds into the line up unless he’s undeniably ready. I could easily put Skille in place of Dadonov- it will all depend on how he handled this summer. Huberdeau won’t get pushed into the line up this year, though I am wondering if Howden MIGHT.

Are we allowed to come watch some of the camp? I’m certain I am underestimating some guys and overestimating others.

The part I loved the most in playing with the lines in my mind, was thinking of the guys I am not putting there.. Mr. Tallon just raised the bar in preparedness to make the team. About damn time.

Your 2011-2012 Florida Panthers

Fleischmann/Weiss/Versteeg
Booth/Santorelli/Dadonov
Upshall/Goc/Bradley
Bergenheim/Kopecky/Skille

Campbell/Jovanovski
Kulikov/Ellerby
Garrison/Weaver

Theodore
Clemmensen

Left Wing is STACKED this season. Upshall, during the press conference, was announced as a left winger. Kopecky played center quite a few games for the Blackhawks last year, so I gave him the nod to play fourth line center. I noticed the Panthers never liked keeping Booth and Weiss on the same line, so I dedicated the 2nd line to the Panthers of last season.

I kept the defenders who played together last season on the same lines. Giving the two veteran free agent pickups the nod at first line, not only as a way of fan service, but because they’re both downright intimidating.

A toss up between Theodore and Clemmensen. I’d give Clemmensen the nod just so he can finally get a chance to start without two of the NHL’s top goalies (Brodeur, Vokoun) keeping him on the bench. However, Theodore is starting on my line simply because he’s higher rated and starting on NHL 11. lol
