Who will be the next Florida Panthers captain?

Photo

Bryan McCabe's late season trade to the New York Rangers left an opening for a new Panthers captain. Marty Reasoner seemed to be the favorite, in Dale Tallon's eyes at least. Reasoner's signing with the New York Islanders yesterday means he won't be the latest to fill in the skates of McCabe, Olli Jokinen, Scott Mellanby and Brian Skrudland. Who do you think will be the next Panthers captain? Will it be a new player who played a leadership role on his last team, a long-time Panther or will they go without? Vote in the poll and leave your reasons for your choice in the comments.

i dont think there is even much discussion about this. at least in my mind.

the only other option, besides Weiss, i think is Jovo. but i’m not thrilled having a first year being our C

Stevie has been through the ups and downs and unlike his buddy Nathan, chose to stick around for this wonderful time…

though i guess Horts did win a Cup

Horton did not win a cup. Boston won the cup, he just happens to be excellent on holding onto coat-tails.

I miss you already Olesz. What we had was tight. Still pulling for those 85 goals you were going to score under Dineen. Chicago will appreciate them, I'm sure.

Was debating this with a few of my buddies actually, I still believe that Weiss deserves to be Captain, since he has the commitment and effort to be a Panther. The offense falls without him in a game. The other option would be the Jovocop. The Assistant Captain’s will maybe be Jovocop and Campbell.

- Go Panthers -

One of the A’s will go to a forward. So I can see Booth gettin it, or possibly even Versteeg. Maybe the second A will rotate.

Awfully hard to pick against Jovanovski. Or Campbell. Of course Weiss has been the glue for the past five years, but not knowing his leadership skills up close makes it a tough call.

I chose Jovo.

With all of the D men that we have,Weaver might not be around here much longer. Weiss deserves the “C”

Chose Weiss

since he has been the heart and soul of this team and has been one of the few players who has helped make the past 10 years bearable with his hard work and willingness to do all the dirty work. Also, he is the only player on the roster whose impact negatively affected the team whenever he wasn’t there. He is the franchise at this point.

Weiss

For all the reasons we said during this year that he should be our Captain, none of those things changed. He played injured, didn’t he have a 10 minute shift one night too? Just like Horton being a game winning hero for Boston- his play stepped up because of the guys around him. I think Weiss will have the same growth experience. Guys like Campbell and Jovo are leaders on ice and off, they don’t have to wear the C to do so.

Jovo

Chose Jovo although I think Weiss more than deserves it. Something about the old sentimentality, remember going to Miami Arena as a little kid with my dad and throwing the rats on the ice, rooting for Jovo, Laus, the Beezer, Lindsey, Barnes, etc… Jovo is a leader and I think would be awesome running ship, especially since he’s been here before. But Weiss has paid his dues and I have no qualms about him getting it. Soupy will probably get an “A”
