I don’t know why I always torture myself and glance at comments on articles about our Cat’s..
Sorry Miami hockey fans. But you should not have an NHL team. It seems other teams have more fans in your building every time I watch a Panthers home game.
Because you know, Canada is so great afterall..

By the way.. I honestly think the Islanders have a great chance of making the playoffs, IF Nabokov steps up and plays for them this season.. he would definately be the deciding factor in whether it happens or not. They have some good offensive punch up front and some solid defenseman too..

They’ve got a much better chance with Nabokov, I’d say they move up to 10th.

With Fl settled in around 9 or 11 :P WPG of course holding up the division/league from the bottom.

The same Evgeni Nabokov that went 8-8-5 with a 3.02 GAA and a .888 sv% in the KHL (a league that weaker than the AHL)? How? They scored 229 goals (16th in the league) and allowed 264 (27th in the NHL). Nabokov should have just stayed retired.

Still say thats a small sample size for a usually consistent goalie

22 games and 1230 minutes isn’t enough? How about replacing Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Dan Boyle, and Rob Blake with Andrew MacDonald, Travis Hamonic, and Mark Streit. Dwayne Roloson couldn’t save the team from last place, and how will Nabokov do better?

I was gonna laugh at Winnipeg for their ironic sign and then I remembered seeing this on the interwebs.

At least its not a constant -30 degrees.

Nice collection for a Wednesday review Chris!
Rob.. I feel ya, Most days I can read the comments and let ‘em roll but lately its under my skin. Especially regarding the Club Dead issue… gggrrrrr… Seems like the local writers don’t want to touch it either, I’ve emailed the writer for the origional piece about the BAC asking for Tax dollars, no reply.
Be impeccable with your word, don't take anything personally, don't make assumptions, always do your best...
Honestly.. I’m used to getting chirped about florida from my friends in toronto, but theyre atleast realistic in saying Florida could very well have a good season this year and only get better in the future.. they’re also willing to admit that their team has had some faults etc.. Honestly I give it to them because Toronto is better on paper now and if healthy could have a really good season as well.. It’s the delusional ones that get under my skin, if hockey wasn’t meant to be in the south then we wouldnt have around 8 (or more) teams in the south..

im from toronto but live in springs, so i have double loyalties, though as ive grown older ive become way more attached to the panthers. my leaf-friends rib me non stop about the cats, my cats friends take pot shots at me about the leafs… its a cruel world.
though, luckily im optimistic about both this year!

Those were some nice passes feeding him, but he earned ‘em. Hope he gets LOTS more this season. The only downside is that he’s going to kill a teammate if he keeps celebrating like that.
Just about split Jim Vandermeer in half.

No one ever mentions the name...
Nolan Yonkman……..He will crack the lineup on opening day……..Dineen wants to show the NHL right off the gitco that the P’s are Not going to be fun to play……..Yonkman will fit into this lineup….GUARANTEED!
So you’re saying Yonkman is going to play well enough to knock either Campbell, jovo, weaver, garison, kulikov, ellerby or Gudbranson off of the opening night lineup? Never gonna happen..
(yes I know the unlikeliness of it being jovo or soupy.. I was just listing all of the real potential starters.)
by Rob PKane McMahon on Aug 24, 2011 6:35 PM EDT up reply actions
No one mentions Yonkman because no way is Dineen going to sit two of Gudbranson, Weaver, and Ellerby for him. Unless something very strange and probably also horrific happens between now and October, there’s no way he makes opening day.
No one mentions Yonkman because he’s far down on the depth chart and on a two year, two-way contract but the fact is, he is the closest thing to a real enforcer the Panthers have in their system (Matt Bradley is a gamer but not suited for heavyweight battles). I see Yonkman starting at least 25 games this season, mainly vs teams with major goonage such as Pittsburgh, NY Isles, Ottawa (unreal),Toronto, etc
Who says a D-man needs to be scratched in order to play Yonkman? Dineen could roster seven d-men for a game and play Yonkman on the fourth line as a forward. It wouldn’t matter much if he’s only seeing 5-10 minutes of ice + a fight or two
Get it right with God ! :)
That's what I'm talkin' about AP...
Dineen doesn’t have to sit a D-man to have The BIG guy on the bench….It sure would feel good to have him there…..I really think he’ll be dressed for opening night!
Though the team needs tough players like Yonkman, I reeeeeeeally liked the fact we finished near the bottom of the league last year in PIM/G.
I say its harder to play a team that doesn’t give you any PP chances than one that will fight at any given moment.

I don’t buy into that logic, that you need to be a low PIM team in order to succeed (fat lot of good that did last year. Disgusting that DeBoers kept Hordichuk on a leash)
Dineen may not be a total goon coach like Randy Carlyle or Dan Bylsma, but he will make these f******’s fight or else. And you can kiss that low PIM total goodbye starting this October :)
itll be yonkman and ellerby holding down the fort in san antonio til someones injured or starts sucking.
by stopdropandbreathe on Aug 24, 2011 7:29 PM EDT reply actions
you mean garrison, ellerby = 1 way
by Rob PKane McMahon on Aug 24, 2011 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions
garrison held our D down last year, i truly cant see them sitting him.
by stopdropandbreathe on Aug 25, 2011 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions
Someone has to sit, and I just cannot in any way see Gudbranson being in the minors yet another year.. it’d be like Pronger playing in the AHL.
by Rob PKane McMahon on Aug 25, 2011 11:07 PM EDT up reply actions
Honestly, if anyone needs to sit, its gotta be Jovo. There’s no way he’s playing all 82, so rotate him out now and again to keep him fresh.

Why not? Gudbranson had a pretty bad season defensively last year in Kingston.
by Alexander Calloway on Aug 26, 2011 2:02 AM EDT up reply actions
Agreed, start him for the first nine, if he isn’t spectacular or a lengthy injury occurs, I dont see him cracking the roster.

For those of you who weren’t around in early May when the CJHL POY honor was actually awarded, the Cats are here to tell you about it now:

Can't wait..
For that young man to play against better competition. The numbers are off the chart, but until he does it against better competition, the expectations must be tempered, IMO.
