Hockey's Future releases latest Panthers organizational Top 20 rankings
Some interesting movement in this most recent list among the prospects as well; witness slight slips by Erik Gudbranson and Jacob Markstrom, while Quinton Howden and Evgeni Dadonov make impressive leaps forward.

Gonna have to go with Markstrom as we have a lot riding on him, including the potential for long term success for our club.

My choice as well; no position more important.

I’m going with Huberdeau. A franchise center is going to do more for a team than a number one goalie.

How many franchise centers has Philly had in the last 20 years? Franchise goalies? how did Ottawa fare, with Spezza as a franchise center and no goalie? How many franchise centers has Jersey had while winning Cups with Broduer? When it comes down to one player, I think its clear, a franchise goalie does more.
How about Chicago and Detroit, who have won three of the last nine Cup Finals? I’d argue they didn’t have “franchise” goalies during those runs.
Maybe we need to look at the defination of the “Franchise Player.” Because in reality we haven’t really had one since Bure. Luongo came as close as it get’s. Don’t get me wrong Jokinen, Booth, and Weiss were and are good players for the Panther’s but nothing I’d call Franchise. A Franchise Player(s) stands out and takes a team places. It may be a goalie, forward or defencemen. But that player not only elevates their game but those around them as well. I am glad that we can have this discussion on whom we think will be our Franchise Player. It’s a welcomed argument. To have more than one postition and guy looked at as a possibility is a great thing. Imagine having a Franchise goalie, center and defencemen….Nice!
A lil thunder and a lil lightning is what the Cats are going to bring this year.
Exactly, in the playoffs a hot goaltender wins championships, last season all four teams that made the Conference Finals (Chicago, Montreal, Philadelphia, and San Jose) had different starting goaltenders. When you make the playoffs, you don’t need a Ryan Miller, you need a Michael Leighton.

How many Stanley Cups do Ryan Miller, Tomas Vokoun, Miikka Kiprusoff, Roberto Luongo, and Henrik Lundqvist have again?

Great group of prospects we have. It’s going to be great seeing a steady flow of prospects making the jump over the years. Also, we’ll be seeing most of these guys on the ice starting next weekend. :D

Semi-related / hype
Beginning this Sunday, not 4 days go by without some kind of Panthers hockey game happening up until the season starts. Not counting the 8 day break between the preseason and season opener.

I’m thinking of going- but I have never been before. Do you have to pay to enter? What’s the scoop Crooklyn??

Free Admission. It’s at the Saveology.com Iceplex Arena in Coral Springs. That’s pretty much all there is to it.

GREAT.. I just need to make sure my fantasy draft isn’t the same time as the game :-)

Wish I could say the same. I’ll be at the 11th, but I think that’ll be about it, I have to work the other days.
Will not be there on the 11th; seeing what I can do for the others.

Gotta go with Guds
Defense wins championships, correct? Well in that case perhaps I should have chosen Marky but when the time comes, Guds will be the glue that holds it all together. Our future Captain for certain!

I went with him too, I think he’s going to be so solid on D for us

Regarding the “Other Forward” votes: love to hear who a few of them might be (and kudos to RPC for the Grimaldi love).

I voted for Markstrom, but the other forward that shouldn’t fall off Panthers fans’ radar should be Garrett Wilson. He’s 20 so he should be in San Antonio next season, so a possible call-up. He’s a LW, and the only other likely call-up at LW is Kennedy, meaning Wilson doesn’t have much competition.

Except a lot of the guys signed this offseason, have the capability of playing the left side. And if Reinprecht goes down to the AHL, he plays the left side as well, making him available for call-up, especially hoping someone might grab his salary.
Problem with Hockey’s Future rankings is, its not about what you have done, but whose name has been in the press most recently. Their rankings really don’t mean jack, especially when you figure a majority of it is voted on by a bunch of fanboys.
