Panthers to host Predators, Lightning in Rookie Tournament
The Florida Panthers open a three-team Rookie Tournament on Sunday featuring division rival Tampa Bay Lightning and possible future division rival Nashville Predators. First game gets underway at the Saveology Iceplex in Coral Springs at 6 p.m; next up is a "neutral-site" meeting Monday between the Bolts and Preds. The Cats are back in action Tuesday (vs Nashville) and Wednesday (vs Tampa Bay); a noon start time for both days. All games are free and open to the public; as well, the exceptional Florida Panthers Foundation will be accepting donations. I'll be attending the weekend games, wearing the usual - and beloved - Spezza jersey. Camp rosters for all three clubs after the jump...

Quick question on this list.. Hyman, Grimaldi and Bjugstad can’t be here because of college and rules etc.. why am I seeing other players on this list (for all teams) who were labeled as playing for colleges? If they’re done with school then I understand that, but wasn’t sure if that was the case or not.
by Rob PKane McMahon on Sep 10, 2011 8:26 PM EDT reply actions
The players you see that were college last season are finished with school.

Call me crazy...
But of all the players on the ice for The Cats, I’m most interested to see(beyond Guds making people sorry they’re wearing the wrong sweater, and Huby playing three-card-monty with the puck) McFarland. All I keep hearing is “maybe he’s just one of those guys who plays up to his opposition” or “he needs NHL-Type motivation”. Well, he’ll have BOTH during this tournament, and throughout camp.
Time to put up or shut up, John-Boy.
Yeah, I’ve heard that McFarland plays better with high caliber players. Be interesting to see where he plays.

Not crazy at all; McFarland is unquestionably one of those under extreme focus this week.

I’m most interested in Markstrom, ya know, just because he’s the team’s future.

First game he’s played since the injury.

Hasn’t been said, but if Markstrom is healthy he’ll likely be starting.

Just promise me that we won’t see another Florida kid through a nasty head shot like last September, m’kay???
That Clackson guy caught Linus Klasen with a vicious one.

That was one of the throwdowns I was present for. You’ll notice he’s no longer with the organization.
Not a great video – the hit is lost based upon what I’ve seen – so drawing a conclusion is impossible, but what I witnessed was pretty brutal.
