Panthers Training Camp - Day Two Summary

The second (public) day of training camp featured two split squad practices followed by scrimmages. Coach Kevin Dineen ran one team through drills while Assistant Coach Craig Ramsay handled the second team. After a quick break, the two teams faced off for a two-period scrimmage. Each period was 15 minutes and the beginning of the second period was given over to a two minute penalty for each team so they could work on the power play and short-handed. When all was finished, the rest of the team did the same.

Star-divide

Scrimmage One

Red Team

White Team

This scrimmage was a high scoring affair. The White Team won 4-3, with David Booth scoring twice for the Red Team, Stephen Weiss scoring off the first faceoff and a beautiful goal by Huberdeau from Bradley for the game winner. The standouts on defense were the pairing of Kulikov and Petrovic. Kulikov was playing like he heard the talk that he was still on an entry level contract and could be sent down to the AHL and Petrovic was equally serious, hchallenging players to try to pass him. In one representative play, he held off Tim Kennedy at the blue line, so Kennedy got the puck to Booth and Petrovic stopped him as well. The line of Weiss, Huberdeau and Bradley were active as was the Booth, Kennedy and Repik line.

Scrimmage Two

Red Team

White Team

No, those lineups aren't incorrect, a couple of players played in both scrimmages. This one was a much lower scoring affair, with the White Team winning 2-0. Scott Clemmensen got the shutout. The second goal for the White Team was an empty net goal. There was still a lot of offense, with the line of Scottie Upshall, Mike Santorelli and Evgeni Dadonov being particularly active.

Some of the more interesting line combinations will be revisited in the doubleheader tonight, so we can get a good look at those in a game situation. With Stephen Weiss sitting, we won't see the line with him,Jonathan Huberdeau and Matt Bradley, but the others are intact, but we will see both Booth-Kennedy-Repik and Upshall-Santorelli-Dadonov in the evening game. Either of those are ones we could see going into the season and are worth keeping an eye on.

The excitement is building! Looking forward to keeping an eye on the scrimmages today – thank god we have LBC and OFP to keep the information flowing.

Heading to the Dallas pre-season game next week, looking forward to it.

Scrimmage 1, Red Team. Missed him when I transcribed my notes.

Anxious to hear what was decided on for the goal song. Can’t remember what it was that I submitted. Hopefully they picked a really good one!

If you’re a high school or college student they’re free.

Otherwise just grab them at the door; prices are all over the map.
