In the absence of any broadcast, we’re taking our toys over to On Frozen Pond for the evening, as GR has been kind enough to host another preseason of game chats for those unable to attend, so come on by.

We’ll of course be back with our own live Open Thread madness when the regular season kicks off.

Not looking good early; Clemmer allows two in opening minutes.

Hazen and Hubby are playing well. Very impressed. I hope Markstrom hops in from start of the second period

Why not…unless Clemmer is really being questioned by the coaching staff

he must be being questioned….and for good reason?

Great game! Seems as though last year we would have be been on the losing side of game like that.

a few things from tonights game, which i attended.

i missed the first two preds goals and sat just as the panthers got on the board.
Gudbranson looks like he belongs here, his shot scares me its so fast.

but man, Huberdeau. he is fantastic, the real deal. it’s going to be very difficult to send him home to Canada if he plays as well as he did tonight, and the last week or so, the rest of the preseason and the 9 game try out. either way, i think he did things tonight i hadn’t seen a Panther do in 10 year.

also, Upshall has a wicked wrister just like a former friend, now Champion of ours.

by alterego6487 on Sep 19, 2011 10:36 PM EDT reply actions

I agree with you on Guds and Huby. Guds is just too awesome, he almost scored on the empty net at the end there.

If Huby can keep putting up 1-2 points a game against NHL opposition, it’s going to be near impossible to send him down. For all the talk about his weight, I saw him take hits standing and throw the body around pretty well.

All in all, the level of skill and the breakout passes on the ice haven’t been seen in years. This is without factoring any chemistry at all. Rallying for the win, excellent movement on the PP, firepower from all four lines, tape to tape passing. I’m ecstatic about this team.

Also, keep in mind this is without some pretty big guns in Weiss, Versteeg, Flash, and Kopecky.

Campbell running the PP was great. looked much better than we’re used to.

also, how bout that hit Boother laid on someone in the 3rd? gotta be his hardest hit.

by alterego6487 on Sep 19, 2011 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah! that too! Booth was throwing the body around and competing. Seems to affirm our thoughts of a monster season for Booth this year.

In case you missed it, the Booth hit was in retaliation from a hit he took +/- 20 seconds earlier. Guess he got his number….Not quite the DBooth persona to give one of those on a regular basis.

Well I meant besides the retaliation hit, he threw some hits we don’t see too often.

Guds definitely played like a man out there. Just has to shore up on those turnovers. Yonkman was a lot of fun to watch. This team wasn’t afraid to hit!

Matty too. Guy’s put on some weight. Someone tried to lay a check on him and Matty only partially went down but the guy who hit him landed on his ass.

Just a small tidbit I thought you guys might like. I was there for both games and both autograph sessions. In the second autograph session, when I got to Versteeg, he asked me if I was excited about this season. I told him, in as many words, that I was and I couldn’t wait. He smiled and said, “Hopefully we’ll give you something to cheer about,” and he went on about how happy and excited he was. Really genuine guy. I was thrilled to meet him and thrilled that the excitement for this season was still there outside of lights and cameras. :)

Aw man. The line was super long by the time I saw Steeg was there. Really wanted him to sign my Versteeg sweater. He seems just as you described him. Hopefully I’ll get to see him again.

We didn’t realize he was in the second session or we might have skipped dinner. We did the first and I finally got my Weiss sweater signed, but we really would have liked to have gotten Versteeg’s signature on whatever we could find. The advertising, whatever.

Of all the guys signing, Versteeg was the most gregarious and as per my usual impression Weiss is as quiet as a door mouse. I wished him a great season and got a barely audible thank you. I’d switch my vote now to Versteeg being Captain on that interaction alone. Of course I’ve no idea how the interaction is in the locker room but…..
I was super mega happy to meet Flash. I told him how excited I was that he’s here and can’t wait for the start of the season that Florida is going to be great for him. He got a huge smile, a little blushing and I got a big thank you.
I also met Mr Yormark to the grimace of many of my cohorts at the time.

I hereby predict Captain Mike Weaver #43 will score 6G 20A -RCR

Yeah, that’s Weiss. Always quiet. I missed Versteeg, but when we went through the earlier line, Flash was joking with Jovo about something and they looked like they were having a good time. I also loved that people were trying to get Flash’s name off his (misspelled) tag and he kept hiding it.

U sure that wasn’t Kopecky, I noticed they spelled his name Thomas and he had crossed out the H. He was first and next to Jovo. Flash was next to the trio of our future :-).

Sorry, wrong T(h)omas. Fleischmann was further down the line, by Theodore and the rookies (Jenks, Birholz & Trocheck).

Anyone get a Weaver signing? Weiss is quiet, Versteeg is excited, Jovo is awesome, Weaver is …..?

I’m putting here for reflection later on in the season…. #14 Tomas [Fleischmann] is getting a 40G season.

I got Weaver to sign my jersey :) I didn’t really have anything to get signed other than my immunopathology notes (so, definitely no), so I had everyone sign my old Frolik jersey. Right after Weaver signed it he said, “You’re going to trade that in now and get a Weaver jersey, right?” lol I said I had to pick one name and unfortunately it was Frolik… not Weaver. He replied, “But you love us all,” and smiled. Probably my most memorable interaction. What a goof, haha.

Weiss was actually pretty vocal when I met him. I had my Frolik jersey and he said that he really missed Frolik. He didn’t speak loudly, but he was friendly. He’s also got the brightest blue eyes I think I’ve ever seen.

Great game. I left the game most impressed by Campbell’s puck moving ability. He made a few Nashville players look silly out there with some of his dekes and his ability to transition the team up ice.
Huberdeau looked great as well and his pass on the assist was siiiick.
Gudbranson also put on a solid performance. I would have liked to have seen him be a bit more physical (and by that I mean i wanted him to knock somebody through the glass on me.)

Jay Rokeach

I know this has nothing to do with the team and how well they played in the second game, but I absolutely hated hearing Jay Rokeach as the new PA guy. Im used to him at the Orange Bowl but I just thought that the speakers were bad. I honestly couldnt understand a word he said. He has no personality and and he seemed so off when it came to announcing penalties and goals. Why did we bring this guy in over what we’ve had in the past?

I could have swore he sounded drunk. In an empty arena I still couldn’t understand a single announcement.

My ears were bleeding all night as well. That’s a guy who loves the sound of his voice. He’s just not a hockey announcer. Tried to be funny at times but was flat.

The only positives I’ll give him is I love the way he says “Jonathan Huberdeau”. Just makes me want to cheer.
