Tuesday Caterwaul: Panthers Open Forum
“We weren't very good. I don't know – our execution and intensity level wasn't there and we have to be much better. We had a decent start, but our intensity level wasn't where we normally like it. We just waited too long and it's hard to battle for 20 minutes in the third and expect to come back, especially against a team that plays well defensively and has a lot of layers defensively.”
- Canucks forward Alex Burrows who, like many of his teammates, continues finding difficulty in moving beyond Saturday's war in Boston.

Why last night rocked:
Not a jones to be found on a light evening, schedule-wise
- LA over WSH, 5-2; are there words to describe the emotion involved here?
Why tonight is a Big Deal in SoFla:
- WPG at BOS, 7 p.m.
- PHI at CAR, 7
- BUF at TOR, 7
- DET at NYI, 7
- PHX at NYR, 7
- OTW at PIT, 7
- STL at MTL, 7:30
- VAN at TB, 7:30
- NJ at CGY, 9:30
Next up for the Cats:
Friday at home vs. a very depleted Pens squad. Worse, it lies to her. It tells her things only a child can understand. It's been using her to restrain the others. To her, it simply is another child. To us, it is The LBC Game Thread, and it crawls under your bed at 7. On, um, Friday.
Did you know:
Four Panthers each recorded 3 shots: Kulikov, Goc, Kopecky and Samuelsson. A good thing, too, as sustained defensive pressure on the top line of Weiss/Versteeg/Fleischmann resulted in a combined total of 4.
On the table:
Even if you already caught the video above, here is the key to a winner, courtesy of Soup:
Via Sportsnet: “Watch Campbell give the ol’ 110% as he lunges flat-out to break up an odd-man rush by the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night. Campbell’s diving pokecheck on Alex Burrows could have been the reason Florida escaped with 2-1 victory over the Western Conference leaders.”

If you guys get the chance check out TSN.ca for the wrapup on last nights game, majority of Canada and most other teams were cheering for us last night.. while the Nucks seem to find that their team “laid down” last night to rest… you know because they need to get ready for the 13th place Lightning (no offense TB fans)
The comments actually didn’t annoy me today, just shows how delusional they are.. the best comments were them trash talking the Bruins fans, who if I remember correctly own a shiny trophy for a year.

Is it safe to say Campbell is the MVP so far this season? Consistent effort on both ends of the ice.

It’s be either him or Theo I think. Granted Theo has had some bads games and let in some soft goals he’s been pretty consistent and showed up when needed (every goalie has a bad game) I’d throw Versteegs name in there too but until that line figures out where the goals went I’d say it’d be between the top 2

True, but many other teams with winning records have negative differentials. As long as you’re not terrible skewed in one direction, I see no problem with it.

Anyone have a clip
Of the pain and suffering Bradley laid down with the hit against the boards in the 3rd? Didn’t get to see who the victim was but it was a monster hit.
It’s mixed in here in the highlight reel
by Rob PKane McMahon on Jan 10, 2012 11:57 AM EST up reply actions
Yeah just noticed
Here is the iso of the hit, clip doesn’t do it justice, was the loudest hit I have ever heard at the BAC.

NHL on the FLY
They commented that the hit by Bradley was a penalty because he didn’t have control of the puck and th eRef didn’t see it. " No question it was an interference penalty" NHL/Fly
Yup, it probably was, but I’ll credit the refs for consistency. It looked like that kind of play was happening all night by both teams.

We’re probably drafting late (which is a good thing overall), i think all we’ll get is a good forward or D
Last five drafts, the first goaltender went 38th (Helberg, with Gibson going right after him at 39th), 11th (Jack Campbell, with Visentin going 28th), 31st, 18th (Chet Pickard, with Thomas McCollum 30th and Marky 31st), and 36th overall. Maybe we don’t get Malcolm Subban (I think he’s still the top goalie prospect this year, replace him with whoever if I’m wrong) if we’re too late in the first, but we should be just fine to grab a pretty good goaltender — not necessarily Markstrom quality, but still pretty good and Marky’s going to need a backup, plus the minors will need restocking.
Also there’s the option of not freaking out.

Get a Euro goalie so he can be placed in the AHL prior to turning 20 if we choose to do so. Leaves more options open :]

freaking out?
no one’s freaking out just started this little discussion by pointing that we are thin in the organization on good young goalies and that needs to be addressed.
ESPN mid season grades
http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/7443756/where-all-30-clubs-stand-first-half-2011-12-season
Panthers earn a B+ – sounds about right to me.
Unlike real American sports, the NHL decides its standings in part by goals scored, and the Panthers have managed to put the puck into the net 50 times this season — five more goals than any other teams in their division.
IS THIS FOR REAL???

This is the same alt-weekly that endorsed Luther Campbell for mayor of Miami. They don’t ever take themselves too seriously. The fact checking leaves something to be desired but I’m sure it was meant to be satirical.

it’s good to have fun here and there but when the team is working on getting its name out there once again and getting people to games etc etc.. It’s kind of a joke, I mean some people (Ive never met one) do read this somewhere..
by Rob PKane McMahon on Jan 11, 2012 5:27 AM EST up reply actions
I wouldn’t take it too seriously. I mean, anybody that is reading that article and thinks “Oh, why should I care” is probably somebody that wouldn’t care either way, even if they’d never seen the article. On the flip side, if somebody is inspired to care about the Panthers and go to their games by the article then so much the better. I’m sure we’d all be happy to disabuse them of any misbegotten notions about the game in our usual friendly and welcoming manner.
Hockey is a business, only we fans love it as a game.
