Soup's hot: Campbell named to 2012 NHL All-Star roster
As expected, Panthers defensive stud Brian Campbell was announced to the NHL All-Star roster this afternoon. Congrats to Soupy for not only having the chance to represent the team at the game, but for having a stellar first half of the season; this reward is much deserved. This is Campbell's fourth All-Star appearance; the first two as a member of the Buffalo Sabres in 2007 and '08 & in 2009 with the Dale Tallon-helmed Blackhawks.
Unfortunately for several other Panthers who excelled in the first half, such as Kris Versteeg, Stephen Weiss and Tomas Fleischmann, as well as blueliners Dmitry Kulikov and Jason Garrison, Campbell is the only Panther at the big show this year. Erik Gudbranson was snubbed from the rookie lineup despite the festivities being in his hometown of Ottawa, though Gudbranson's numbers and play haven't exactly been All-Star game material just yet.
You can check out the full roster of players selected right here. Congrats again to Soupy and have fun!

Looking over the full roster it doesn’t feel like we were snubbed at all. It would have been cool to get a couple of guys in the ASG but some of the names that aren’t on the list… Carey Price is in but Mark Andre-Fleury isn’t? Pavel Datsyuk is the only Red Wing?
On the other hand, DENNIS WIDEMAN?! Really?

At least he's playing for a solid organization with upward-trending goals and a foolproof management plan to reach them.

I’m cool with the selections. At least FLA has a worthy contributor involved in the actual game this year.

Soup truly is our best player this year…so since the chose only 1.
And TB only sending Stamkos? Many teams with only 1 rep while the homies fill the bench.
The All Stars should not be a fan vote. It should be computed by the stats that count, sending the best first half players the season has to offer. Then a well deserved Garrison would be in there too!

I don’t know if I’d go with a purely stats-based solution but I definitely think fan voting is classic stupidity. If there should be a wider vote, maybe the press or the players themselves?
Meh. I’m all for scrapping the thing. Make the winter classic the all star game (even though the Panthers would never play in it) and the “all-star” invitees can do the skills competition the day before it.
