Saturday Caterwaul: Panthers Open Forum
Friday's 4-1 toasting by the gloves of Pittsburgh signified the fourth-straight game Florida has failed to score more than twice, contributing to a total of seven goals (1PP) and a 1-2-1 record over the span, while allowing their grasp as Southeast leaders - and playoff participants - to virtually disintegrate.

Can’t believe how hard that loss hurt…. it is scary to think that went the Bruins game begins, the Panthers could be under the line. There is still some hope… Carolina COULD beat the Caps and Tampa could beat the Pens…. so keep the heads up.
However, I am thinking gotta take the season in 5 game pieces… and the Cats need 3 wins in each set… loser points dont count. They need to find a way to get the W. This would translate to 98 points… and looking at the 8 sets (Last night is in set 1) there are 2 or 3 tough sets, 2 or 3 that the team we know they are could easily take 4 or 5 of and a few that could go either way. The real key is to win the Divisional games, set 2 after the all star game: WSH, TB, WPG, WSH. Find a way to sweep that and all will feel much better…
The minor trade last night was an OK one. I would have liked to have given Esposito a chance to get back on track, but Roman was a decent prospect for the Stars… and we great in the WHL a few year back.
Last thought on everything though is what we all are thinking… we need to get the scoring back. I would say no matter the injury situation, I woudl hope Dale starts making some serious overtures at the ASG to get someone in.
My guess on how the logjam at forward shakes out is that unfortunately Repik may have to go back to SA for now, and I think Santorelli will be moved by Feb 27th. Will not clear things up perfectly… still think one more player must go…. however after the Deadline, the 23 man roster limit is no longer.
Wondering if Edmonton sends Hemsky to FLA for Santorelli, a prospect and conditional pick?

Or maybe Ellerby gets moved in the trade and they send back a conditional pick? I dont want to see massive moves and no mortgaging the future. I just want in the playoffs this year to end the suffering and see where we go from there…. I stick to my belief from the day we hired DT, in 2 to 4 years we will raise the cup.
The team is set for the long run if you look at the contracts handed out in the summer… 3 and 4 year deals that were staggered to expire as we slowly bring in a few young ones to learn the ropes.
I dread that 7 day lay off at the end of the month too….
Anyhow, all hope is not lost…. But the guys fates are now placed SQUARELY in their hands… Keep pace or preferably OUTpace the Jets and Caps and win the face to face games and they are #3.

No way they do that lol. Santo has very miniscule value in the trade market. Hemsky isnt going to be sold low.
Just checked and saw that Washington is only two points back

Been thinking I would like to get a new Red jersey… with Markstrom 25…. just having trouble parting with $200 until my wife is done school….
BUT I had a great idea….
Here is what I am going to do…. I will not buy a new Panthers jersey until they clinch a playoff spot (this year, next year whenever)…. and I will personalize it with the name and number of the player who is named first star of the game that clinches the Panthers a spot… (or highest named Panther in the 3 stars) THAT should make things interesting.
by saskpantherfan on Jan 14, 2012 12:14 PM EST reply actions
That’s not a bad idea. I’m going to buy a jersey with whoever scores our 200th goal of the season. (If we get to 200 goals (groan…))

best F’n day ever. got my new steeger jersey signed and gave him a new hat since he collects them he was happy with it. then told me he loved one of the signs he always sees me at games with. such a great guy. Weiss again seemed distant and quiet. weaver joked with us all and laughed when I called him “captain” (that ones for u chris) garrison also laughed when I asked him to sign a jersey as “snubbed all-star”

Funny, really,
If you’d have told us that we would be leading the division, albeit by two points, at this point of the season back at the start, I think we would have been ecstatic. I’d certainly hope they pick it up again, like at the start, but we are still overachieving.

Well, we were overachieving. Anymore we’re playing average

Look
My point is, we’re all down in the dumps after this cold streak. But it seems to be the idea here that if we lose the division lead, we’re as good as done. If we’re good enough to have the division lead, we should good enough to fight our way into the playoffs in any way.

On some of the drills he would have each line come in with himself as the loan D-man along with the goalie.. he actually still has the skills pokechecking pucks and taking the body. When Bergenheim scored on one he playfully gave a crosscheck to his back as he skated away.. even in practice you don’t let someone skate away cleanly after scoring

FLA 6 6 (Tied for 6th in East with 6 others)
And finally, on Jan 14th, 2011
BUF had played 43 games, with 43 points, sitting in 10th place, 8 points back of MTL/ATL 51 points in 8th place. They ended in 6th, with 96 points, 8th place NYR had 93.
Something random from today..
Could be nothing who knows, but Madden while walking around signing autographs for everyone had his right arm inside his shirt, holding it close to his body as he used his left to reach for things to hold down for himself to sign. (right arm popped out from under his shirt to sign)

This was the first practice I’ve seen. Was it a regular practice or was anything different?
I was rocking a litter box cap but the only person to comment on it was a Panthers rep (nice guy named Robert). Got tix for the Boston game!
About the same as any other practice, Dineen may have even worked them a little harder than usual.

Word already had traveled. He asked me if I was an author here (flattery?) and if I also visited rattrick (which I don’t).
He was kind of surprised that I’m a native Floridian. I guess hockey fans down here are mostly from somewhere else.

I don’t usually read Harvey’s blog since his formatting is visually painful to read. Guess I should start checking it a little more often.

Eh he has some decent stuff sometimes, GR is still the best though, especially since Harvey kept on walking and turned the other way when I said hi to him today. Yet George walked right up to me said hello and started up a convo about being excited for the all-star game
I may be sightly biased lol
