"Screaming Panthers" Alternate Jersey Concept

Now that things have gone awry with the upstart Panthers for now I decided to look into the past of South Florida hockey and discovered the WHA Miami Screaming Eagles. Parb207050_medium

With talk of a new alternate being introduced next season at the soonest I decided to take inspiration from their uniform designs.

This is how the original Screaming Eagles' sweaters looked like.

The Heat have decided to come out in the ABA Miami Floridians Jerseys again this season.Page2_ri_heat-jersey_mb_200_medium

All this despite having no direct connection to the four-year 1970's franchise. Why not the Panthers for the team that never played a single game?

The Screaming Eagles never played a game or had an actual jersey designed- only a logo. Those jerseys pictured were made by a company that used to sell WHA merchandise they never existed as a real WHA item.

I really, really like the Jersey design you did but does the Panther need to have a hockey stick in it’s mouth?

The stick is actually underneath its paws. Made it holding it like the eagle. It’s a little hard to see with this low quality pic. Also thanks for the clear up on some of the history. I know they didn’t play a game but thought the jerseys were real. Either way the logo is still legit and the main focus of the jersey which is a change from the Panther breaking-stick logo’s usage as an alternate.

A closer look at the crest

Yeah, the logo is legit but I’m almost positive those jerseys are not.

Thanks for posting the larger crest. Now that I can fully see it I like it.a lot.

Very nice design. I think something like this would be an excellent third jersey.

I like how you used the number on the crest but that probably wouldn’t be feasible as a different crest would have to be used for each jersey. not cost efficient :) The number would have to go in a different spot on the front of the jersey.

Yeah just wanted to break up the empty space that’s there. That or have the sun from the shoulder logo beaming down

it looks cool but probably wouldn’t work if these were ever made for real.

this what a real Screaming Eagles puck would have looked like. That picture with the Parent autograph isn’t accurate.

I’d love to see that version a jersey :)

That would be great for an alternate.

Hockey is a business, only we fans love it as a game.

National Mario

here’s a little more SoFlo hockey pre-history for you.

South Florida had a couple of other brushes with the WHA after the Screaming Eagles didn’t happen in1972.

In 1976 Bill Putnam attempted to buy the Minnesota Fighting Saints and move them to the Hollywood Sportatorium but instead the WHA decided to disband the team.
Later that year the Cleveland Crusaders were almost sold to Putnam and moved to the Sporto but instead they moved to Minnesota and became the 2nd version of the Fighting Saints. If one of those moves had happened the team would have been called the Florida Breakers and the color would have been orange and blue. They even took season ticket deposits and scheduled games.

In 1977 Jerry Saperstein tried to purchase the San Diego Mariners but the Mariners decided to fold when it became apparent they would not be part of any merger with the NHL. If that would have happened the team would have been called the Florida IceGators.
At the time the NHL/WHA merger proposal called for New England (Hartford), Quebec, Edmonton and Cincinnati to become NHL teams but it got shot down. Cincinnati later was replaced by Winnipeg as the fourth team.
