Monday Caterwaul: Panthers Open Forum
Phenomenal shot of Panthers netminder Jose Theodore feeling all 183 lbs of blueliner Dmitry Kulikov, December 31, 2011 vs Montreal. Incredible photo (owned and) shared by FOTB Ward Benjamin. Several other amazing pics documenting the sequence can be found here via FaceBook.

Why last night rocked:
- Several hours of Family Guy was pretty cool
- Olli Jokinen bagged an assist during his 1,000th game (a 5-3 NSH victory; Bouwmeester: minus-5)
Why last night jonesed:
- Quiet night on ice, with no action in the East (perhaps a good thing)
Why tonight is a Big Deal in SoFla:
- NYR at PHI, 3 p.m. (we'll throw together a Winter Classic Game Thread for those interested)
- NJ at OTW, 7:30; pick your poison for this one, as both have 43 points and have won two straight
Next up for the Cats:
Thursday at the Rangers. LBC Game Thread gets animated at 6:30.
Did you know:
NBC SN (r.i.p. Versus) will be carrying a sweet-looking documentary on the 1972 Summit Series following the WC at 6. Really stoked for this.

Quite the move for him. Congrats and all, but the long layoff may be enough for Theo to get back into the lineup before Thursday’s game at MSG.

I thought they had called up the Alien
It’s hard to find timely news for these roster moves.

That was the general thinking at the time. Kinda stunned.

Markstrom will meet the team in NYC after he’s done playing the AHL games in the next few games. Foster was just for practice. Via GR.

Spector, on players who will NOT be moved by the deadline
Kris Versteeg, Florida Panthers. He’s the Panthers leading scorer, on pace for career-highs in goals, assists and points, and yet his name has been floated as a possible trade candidate? Probably because he’s been moved around so much over the past couple of years, but honestly, suggesting the Panthers could move him is ridiculous.
True, that. More here.

Habs in the news for all the wrong reasons this year
Litter Box Cats - Your tarp-free Florida Panthers Colossus
More Habs craziness, and this really is ridiculous:
The team’s general manager took the unusual step today of issuing a qualified apology, two weeks into the reign of new coach Randy Cunneyworth.
Pierre Gauthier says he’s sorry if the team upset fans by hiring a coach who can’t speak French.
He stresses the Cunneyworth was only hired on an interim basis and his status will be re-examined after the season.
Cunney should walk away right now with his dignity.

Apologized…to the fans. Thats just unreal.
I’m putting here for reflection later on in the season…. #14 Tomas [Fleischmann] is getting a 40G season. FLASH COUNT: 15G/19A

Yep, I’d walk right out the door. Wonder how that makes the non french speaking players feel as well. I remember Koivu having problems with the media because he was captain and didn’t speak french. But this “Apology” is ridiculous.
A lil thunder and a lil lightning is what the Cats are going to bring this year.
Big dramatic prelude to hiring Roy after the season.

was at practice today. nice to see Goc and Sameuslon skate the whole practice with the team even though there was no contact for them. Also before the team came out skille, upshall and bergenheim looked like they had a pretty hard skate with some shooting. hopefully that means everyone should be back in the not too distant future. foster was called up because they need another practice goalie and markstrom is needed with san antonio for games. they are reporting that jose’s injury is not that serious and hopefully he won’t be gone too long

Good stuff, G5. Thx :)

Madden/Barch
Any word on when we will see John Madden? Any news on the Barch/Subban “incident”?
Nothing yet on Madden. Should have news re: Barch tomorrow or soon after.

I’m starting to think Tallon won’t sign Madden. Everyone’s starting to come back and we don’t need any more players right now. Sammy’s going to play Thursday and Goc will be on the trip. Although I’d love to still see him signed, it probably won’t happen right now.
- Go Panthers -
There’s no rush in any event until Thursday.
