Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

Tuesday Caterwaul: Panthers GameDay Open Forum

[Flyers GM] Paul Holmgren said there are no new updates for the team's four injured players. Jaromir Jagr and Zac Rinaldo are day-to-day. None of the four has a chance to play tonight. Danny Briere (above) is the only one who flew to Florida with the team - and that's because his father is along on the trip. James van Riemsdyk, out since Jan. 14, has not yet resumed skating.

Why last night rocked:

  • CAR over WPG, 2-1 (REG); kinda big, as Jets outshoot Canes 30-16
  • LA over OTW, 4-1; Kings' Clifford: goal, assist, fight, 3 SOG. Fantasy gold.

Why last night jonesed:

  • TOR over NYI, 3-0; Lombardi's two goals more than enough for Leafs

Panthers Playoff Update:

Why tonight is a Big Deal in SoFla:

  • BOS at WSH, 7 p.m.; Broons 6-4-1-1 in D.C. since lockout
  • WPG at NYR, 7; Rags are 6-1-1 at home in last eight
  • BUF at NJ, 7; Sabres have lost 11 straight on the road
  • TOR at NYI, 7; anyone care to vote against Kessel getting a point or three?
  • CBJ at TB, 7:30; Bolts shooting for fourth-straight victory (picked a good night for it)
  • PIT at STL, 8; Pens looking for seventh victory in as many tries
  • OTW at PHX, 9; Sens are 6-1 over Yotes in last seven meetings

Next up for the Cats:

  • Tonight vs Philadelphia; the LBC Game Thread plays a Slazenger One at 7 p.m.

Did you know:

Noticed in the last Game Thread that not everyone in the LBC community has discovered the "Wide" screen format editor. Utilizing this feature dramatically alters and improves the look & user-friendliness of the site. It's that big of a deal. Just head to the top of the page, look to the right, and click "Wide" in the grey box. This will now be the default view anytime you log in :)

Everyone wants to know if they’re going to be buyers or sellers at the deadline, etc etc… and all he’s going to say is, “We like our team and if we see a chance to improve our team, we will make the move.” Which pretty much also means, “I’m not telling you.”

If Kuli finished game with knee injury, then it’s an indication of relatively minor surgery involved; i.e. cleaning up a meniscus tear. Let’s hope. Hate to see his wheels slowed down.

Not a bad assessment. He doesn’t have the PK skills of Campbell, but gets into the corners and he can make a pass, which is more than I can say for not only the last bunch of enforcers this team has had, but most of the fourth liners this team has had the last few years.

From Yesterday

Here is what Tim Thomas had to say about not visiting the White House

“I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People,” Thomas’ statement read. “This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.”

“Because I believe this,” the statement continued, “today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.”

by badger737 on Jan 24, 2012 1:35 PM EST up reply actions

Tim Thomas - Public Figure; Whether he wants it or not?

I have to say that Tim Thomas sounds very selfish. He is a “public” figure and is representing the " BOSTON" “BRUINS”, boston is the land of politics. When you decide to skip out on a team event, like attending the White House and are the MVP and Stanley Cup Winner then he makes it a political storm. Whether fair or not. He is a public figure in Boston, he knows what he did and nationlly. he is a public figure that he has a NATIONAL ADVERTISING campaign for a credit card.

He just embarrassed the city of Boston and his team. Shame on him. It is a team event, you should be there.

Also, if you are invited to the White House by the President. You go. A sign of respect. He The President is also the Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces which protect the USA. The President represents “USA”, which is why it is an honor to be invited to the White House.

I hope Thomas is suspended by the team for causing this media storm. Like it or not, TIm Thomas is a public figure, if doesn’t get that, then stop having National Ads for credit cards etc.

by Hawkseye on Jan 24, 2012 4:56 PM EST up reply actions

No suspension for Tim, according to Chiarelli, who clarified that he’d been tying to get Tim to change his mind for a month and that Tim’s statements aren’t representative of the Bruins. Have the Bs played since? I wonder what the crowd reaction has been if so.

Bergenheim – Weiss/Matthias – Versteeg
Flash – Goc – Samuelsson
Upshall – Madden – Kopecky
Bradley – Santorelli – Barch

So my thinking is that 1) I dont think Bergenheim is hurt, I think it is a scratch to rest him up…. assuming he is for sure a scratch ala Versteeg last week. 2) If he is out, maybe the centers shift down and:

13 – 9 – 32
14 – 18 – 26
19 – 57 – 82
22 – 10 – 21
