Why last night neither rocked nor jonesed:
- OTW over PHI, 6-4; both clubs now have more points/"lesser" conference standing than FLA
Why tonight is a Big Deal in SoFla (beyond the obvious):
- WSH at LA, 10:30 p.m.; Caps are 1-3 (9GF-16GA) on S. Figueroa Street since 2003
Next up for the Cats:
Tonight from a be-tarped BankAtlantic Center vs Vancouver; the LBC Game Thread (7 p.m.) asks you to come down and see the, uh, mile of cars we have at the lot.
Did you know:
Lifetime, FLA and VAN are 1-1 on Mondays against each other, both from BC, and both ending in a 2-1 regulation score (3/7/1994 & 10/11/2010)
On the table:
Canucks "player ratings" vs Boston...F Kris Versteeg has 7P (2G) vs VAN...G Roberto Luongo is 4-0-1 with 1 SO vs FLA...Coach Dineen on backup G Jacob Markstrom (knee): "I'm confident he'll be fine to be an option.''; expect a Scott Clemmensen start...OFP with the ups & downs of the season so far...D Brian Campbell is riding a three-game point streak (all assists) for the third time this season; he's collected 9P (1G) in as many games...Canucks' D Sami Salo is out, thanks to this...David Booth will not play, as of Sunday afternoon...Remember hating with all your humanity having the Cats face ATL and CAR 8 times per year after the lockout? Try this: "The San Antonio Rampage take on their in-state rivals, the Houston Aeros, [Sunday] at the AT&T Center for the seventh of 12 matchups between the two clubs this season." SA eventually lost 4-3...Tonight's game preview goes live at 3 p.m...Lots to mull over at Nucks Misconduct this morning.
UPDATE: G Brian Foster has been recalled, will back up Clemmer

I’m not saying I want our D to get hurt, but I would so much rather the injury bug bit there. We’re better equipped to fill in for half of them than to fill in for half the forwards like we did last month or half the goaltenders like we are right now.
How are we better equipped to fill def? our depth in the AHL is all at forward.. Yonkman would be ok for a game or two but not a long time.. and yeah we have ellerby but then that would really hurt our chances of landing something in a trade if we look to improve forwards at the deadline.

Ellerby means that if we’re down three, we only have two holes. Yonkman and Robak would be able to plug those two holes if needed and I doubt they’d need to plug the holes for all of the close to two months until the deadline. I’m just saying, I’d rather be rolling one pair of AHL guys than two lines of them.
Tim Kennedy and Michal Repik font really constitute depth at the forward positions. We’ve just seen a lot of guys from SA due to injuries

I guess the point is between Yonkman, Robak, Stratchan and even that Derlyuk guy and Mike Vernace SA has a pretty good defensive group to steal.

Anyone want to bet that if Marchand gets suspended he’ll be back for the Panthers game? (Why: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGD5DbljtfE ). Boston plays three games before showing up here next Monday and I’m guessing he gets two or less, which would put him on the ice @CAR and @FLA.

no need to panic (yet) a win tonight and Capital loss in LA would makes us all feel a lot better tomorrow.
Oh, come on, panic before anything insurmountable has happened is what we do! One word: preseason. Two more: Jose Theodore.
We didn’t panic in preseason.. at least I didn’t. I am feeling that anxiety now… A big fat win would help ease that.

Don't worry be happy
My take on this is that we had a big lead in the division. The bump is most likely due to the large number of injuries we have (why do the hocky gods hate us so much?). Hopefully we can stay close or maintain a small lead until healthy again. I think we will be fine as it is a longggggggggggggg season.
Except, being Panther fans, we all know what happens when you fall behind the 8-ball. It gets tougher to get back into it.

Have to apologize...
If I was a superstitious person (which I am not), I would probably have to take the blame for something here. About a month ago in my office pool, I dropped Nik Kronwall and picked up Kulikov. As it turns out, Kuli has not put up the points since… Bad luck maybe?

Keys to tonight:
1. The Cats bust out of their scoring slump and light it up vs Louie.
2. Clemmer plays a solid game in net and our defense doesn’t leave him out to dry.
