Panthers' Marcel Goc Comes Up Big For Adler Mannheim

Florida center nets huge third period goal for Adler in comeback win over Hannover.

Marcel Goc (above, left) scored a huge shorthanded goal late in the third period as visiting Adler Mannheim went on to defeat the Hannover Scorpions by a 4-3 count in a shootout in Sunday action from the D.E.L. (German Elite League). The unassisted tally tied the contest at 3-3 with only 4:47 remaining in the game. Goc had two shots on goal and finished with a +1 rating while skating on a line with Christoph Ullman and Alex Mitchell. Adler Mannheim showed up ready to play, striking for two quick goals in the first period. Frank Mauer staked the Eagles to a 1-0 lead on assists from Yanick Lehoux and Matthias Plachta. Just over three minutes later, Mirko Höfflin scored his first of the campaign with assists going to Nikolai Goc and former Florida Panthers defenseman Dennis Seidenberg. Scott King would beat Alder’s Dennis Endras on the power play to get Hannover within a goal before the end of the opening stanza. The Scorpions would tie the game in the second period on an even strength goal from Alexander Janzen with Sascha Goc picking up the only assist on the play. In the third period, the Scorpions connected on the power play again as Sascha Goc gave Hannover its first lead of the game on assists from Morten Green and Scott King. Just under five minutes later, with Adler’s Frank Mauer in the box, Goc would beat Hannover goalie Dimitri Pätzold to send the game to overtime. The game went to the shootout after neither team could come up with the decisive goal in the extra period. After both teams scored on their first attempt, the goalies would each come up with four straight saves. Goc was denied by Pätzold in round five. Hannover’s Morten Green was stopped by Endras in the sixth round setting the stage for Yanick Lehoux’s shootout winner. The victory kept Alder Mannheim tied with Augsburger for second place in the D.E.L. standings.
