Florida Panthers Prospect Roundup: February 14, 2012

Another week in the books, with the Rampage making up for a slow start, Sam Brittain returns to action completely healthy, and Vincent Trocheck continues to lead Panther prospects in the Canadian Hockey League. All this and more after the jump for this week's Panthers roundup.

Star-divide

San Antonio Rampage 4, Hamilton Bulldogs 2

The Rampage bounced back from a 2-1 score in the first to beat the Bulldogs, AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, with three unanswered goals in the remaining two periods. Dov Grumet-Morris was in net, stopping 38 of the Bulldogs 40 shots.

San Antonio Rampage 5, Toronto Marlies 4 (OT)

The Rampage scored three goals in the third period to send the game to overtime. On the powerplay, just one minute into the extra period, Colby Robak scored the game winner with assists from Bracken Kearns and Jon Matsumoto.

San Antonio Rampage 4, Rochester Americans 1

Michal Repik scored two goals against his former team as the Rampage walked away with their third straight win. The Rampage's powerplay went two-for-three with the opening goal from James Wright and an insurance goal from Repik.

Grand Rapids Griffins 7, San Antonio Rampage 4

The Rampage fell into a 3-1 hole in the first period against the Grand Rapids Griffins, AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. The Rampage did fight back scoring three goals in the next two periods, cutting the lead to one. But it wasn't enough as the Griffins outplayed the Rampage for the win.

The San Antonio Rampage are 27-21-2-0 with 56 points. They're currently third in the West Division and the number six seed in the Western Conference.

are those stats from Huberdeau FOR REAL!?!

45 points and +32 in 24 games. have we ever had a prospect put up those numbers???!?!?

As good as his totals are, Trocheck has been just as good points-wise even if not in terms of +/-…

Hockey is a business, only we fans love it as a game.

Hubs has played far fewer games than Trocheck he is having the better season by far. not taking anything away from VT who is doing really well.

Huberdeau plays on a very talented St. John’s team. He might be the best offensively talented player for the Panthers since Pavel Bure. When he does play.

Trocheck’s team got off to a slow start, which is why his +/- isn’t as good as his other stats

I’d have to say Hubs is the best looking prospect we have ever had. Looks more offensively gifted than Horton and Weiss.

Weiss wasn’t drafted for his offensive prowess. He was drafted more for his ability to shut down the opositions top line, as he did to Spezza in the playoffs, during their draft year. He has offensive talent, but the deciding factor was his defensive game and leadership abilities.

Huberdeau-Trocheck Prospects

Checking through all the sites and our current prospects it looks like Huberdeau and Trocheck may be our most promising prospects. We knew this about Huberdeau but I think someone missed the ship on this Trocheck kid. Looking at his stats and info on him. He’s been a top producer everywhere he’s played for the last 3-5 years. He was listed as the OHL’s top Faceoff Center too ??

Lots of point per game players right now, I’m getting excited for Trocheck.

I’m putting here for reflection later on in the season…. #14 Tomas [Fleischmann] is getting a 40G season. FLASH COUNT: 18G/24A

Don’t get too excited, we likely won’t see him until 2014.

by Alexander Calloway on Feb 14, 2012 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

I’ll be patient, certainly wasn’t expecting him to put up those numbers this soon though.

Trocheck appeared on a lot of scouts’ radars after his playoff performance, scoring 11 points (6G/5A) in 12 games for the Saginaw Spirit, as well scoring 62 points (26G/36A) in 68 games. A good decision maker and developing playmaker, Trocheck should get time with the American Junior team and is expected by some to have a breakout season next year. While he doesn’t have any skills that standout, he does have an amazing work ethic and solid hockey sense.
