Friday Caterwaul: Panthers GameDay Open Forum
Tomas Vokoun has pitched a shutout in each of the last three Capitals/Panthers matchups in which he has played. In addition to his two shutouts against the Panthers for the Capitals this season, Vokoun also blanked the Capitals as a member of the Panthers on April 9, 2011 in his last game in a Florida sweater. The last time Vokoun played a game in Florida for a team other than the Panthers was with Nashville on Dec. 23, 2002, in a 3-2 win over the Panthers.

Why last night rocked:
- Not much to crow over, as only one of yesterday's games had a potential for impact on the Panthers. That game would be...
Why last night jonesed:
- WPG over MIN, 4-3 (SO); Kane's 2 regulation goals were topped only by his shootout winner in a game the Wild led twice; Jets now 2-1 in past three on road (both victories in SO)
Panthers Playoff Update:
- FLA did not play; playoff odds down 0.8 to 82.7% per Sports Club Stats
Why tonight is a Big Deal in SoFla, beyond the obvious:
Teams FLA needs to lose in bold…
- ANH at NJ (68P), 7 p.m.; Ducks are 5-0-1 in last six (four on Eastern trip)
- BOS at WPG (60P), 8; Broons past six on road: 4-2
Next up for the Cats:
- Hosting Washington this evening; LBC Game Thread gets busy at 7. Check in with our fellow conspirators from Japers' Rink and Kings of Leonsis for the D.C. side of the equation.
Did you know:
- Panthers are 4-2 all-time at home on Fridays vs Caps; 17GF - 14GA
On the table:
- Spector's Rick Nash Roundup for Friday!
Thursday’s Organizational News:
- None
Thursday's NHL Transactions:
- TB F Dominic Moore, 7th rd pick ('12) to SJ for 2nd rd pick ('12)
- DAL D Nicklas Grossman to PHI for 2nd rd pick ('12), 3rd rd pick ('13)
- ANH D Bryan Rodney to EDM for F Ryan O'Marra

Goal Song
Hey does anyone know what happened to our goal song? The one that goes nah , nah, nah or something like that. It just kinda disappeared.
A lil thunder and a lil lightning is what the Cats are going to bring this year.
Dear Jebus I hope nope. Seems like they have gone back too what they played last year after a goal. I really liked the nah nah nah song though.
A lil thunder and a lil lightning is what the Cats are going to bring this year.
Just in case you’re curious, the goal song used in the first half of the season was My Chemical Romance “Na Na Na”. The song they (and 2/3 of the rest of the league) use now is Gary Glitter “Rock and Roll Part 2.” This is when it changed.
:(){ :|:& };:
i really wish they would have kept my chemical romance, we were the only team using it so it was kinda cool but now we use a washed up song that every team in the league has already abused
I agree. It’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but I think it’s just kinda cool when a team is associated with a goal song. I can’t hear Chelsea Daggers with out thinking of the Blackhawks. I’m sure that probably holds true for most Canucks fans as well though.

This generation needs better music.

plenty of good music out there – you just gotta dig harder than ever to find it

Not that there isn’t good music, there’s just an over abundance of really really really bad music to wade through.
:(){ :|:& };:
you said it Spencer – that’s really the problem. there has always been good music but now the bad music is now almost overwhelming.

I do a pretty good job avoiding a lot of it. If it wasn’t for sporting events, I probably wouldn’t know any songs by the Black Eyed Peas.
It’s in knowing where to look. And where to avoid.

I can’t argue with his reasoning throughout the piece but it’s still funny to hear him say that the Panthers will win the Southeast Division “…and finish third in the Western Conference.”
O RLY BARI?
I have started my praying early to the hockey gods today for a huge win for us. Please Jose, make stops, panthers please score goals and for the love of god can be please score first! also it would be great if all fans in attendance would stand up and applause for the team when they get onto the ice and introduced! I yell and cheer so much but it would be super if the team heard it from the rest of the fans. We need to start showing that we like the team. Every other arena stands up….go panthers!

Depends on who needs an experienced playoff veteran with faceoff prowess. Might be worth a 5th rounder or something.

Upshall
I have a feeling Upshall won’t be back this year. I talked to him at the last game and he was trying to sugar coat it but he didn’t sound to optimistic.
Although, I did get him to do this:
:(){ :|:& };:
He’s probably best off writing this season off, rehabbing and coming back next year. Sometimes you get so far behind it’s not worth coming back.

Great value in return, a solid second and Geoffrion is a good prospect. NSH on the other hand, first time I’ve seen them make a move like this at the deadline. Their defense is so solid right now it’s a joke.

He’s a rental. David Poile is trying to show Suter and Weber that the team is ready to go for a championship. If they make the WCF, they have a much better chance of retaining both of those guys. They’re in their primes and they want to win. I don’t expect that he’s done yet, either. Look for him to pick up a scorer from another seller before it’s all over.
"Shut up, Pierre!" -Everyone
Litter Box Cats - Your Panthers Colossus.
makes sense although I don’t see Nashville having that great a chance at the WCF without getting a really good forward which may mean moving Suter. But you are probably right they will more than likely make a minor move for a forward and roll with what they got. They are pretty conservative there, hard to see them making a blockbuster deal.
112 days until Prometheus
No way they move Suter. Not until after the season. The time has come where you have to go for it and not worry about who might walk after the end of the season.
I don’t think they’ll go for a blockbuster deal. They’ll just try to pick up a good second/third line 20 goal-ish rental from a team that’s not making the playoffs. Someone to help them get a little more scoring. They won’t make drastic moves unless and until Suter decides he’s not staying.
"Shut up, Pierre!" -Everyone
Litter Box Cats - Your Panthers Colossus.
agree with you 100%. I just don’t see them advancing that far without bringing in something better than a rental forward.
112 days until Prometheus
Depends. They’re probably in good shape for the first round. They have good records this season against the two teams they’re most likely going to face (STL & CHI). For the second, they’re probably going to draw Vancouver or Detroit, which is not so good, but not out of the realm of possibility. Well, against Detroit, maybe it is.

I like their chances against chicago in the first round better than I do against st louis. don’t like their chances in the second round but we’ll see. they’ve got a good team.

Never really checked this site before so dont know how good they are on rumors but apparently according to this the Panthers have interest in Hemsky and Stastny..
and at one point had interest in Huselius and Brassard.

Stastny would be nice, Hemsky too if only he could stay healthy and we could prenegotiate with him before a trade.
Both teams also need defense, and with the signing of the kracken it leaves us with the possibiity of either throwing garrison or ellerby their way in a package.
