SUNRISE, FL - NOVEMBER 3: Ed Jovanovski #55 celebrates as Stephen Weiss #9 of the Florida Panthers lies on the ice after scoring a second period goal against goaltender Corey Crawford #50 of the Chicago Blackhawks on November 3, 2011 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. The Blackhawks defeated the Panthers 3-2 in a shoot out. (Photo by Joel Auerbach/Getty Images)
As Stephen Weiss deservedly gets his moment in celebration of a franchise-best 614 games as a Panther this evening, he'll not need to worry over relinquishing the title at any point soon: Ed Jovanovski currently ranks second among active Cats with 296, followed by 21 year-old Dmitry Kulikov at 186 (who could soon be surpassed by a healthy Shawn Matthias, trailing Kuli by 3).

Why last night rocked:
- OTW destroyed WSH 5-2; Tomas Vokoun stops 7 of 11 shots before yet another early hook; Senators now two behind Broons for NE lead
Why last night jonesed:
- Sens climb to 72 points but is anyone seriously concerned given their effort against the Caps? Let 'em have it.
Panthers Playoff Update:
- FLA did not play; playoff odds up 1.3 to 68.4% per Sports Club Stats
Why tonight is a Big Deal in SoFla, beyond the obvious:
Teams FLA (65P) needs to lose in bold…
- SJ at TOR (65P), 7 p.m.; Leafs won last match between clubs 4-2 over 13 months ago
- TB (60P) at WPG (65P), 8:30; doesn't get much uglier than this. After posting a shutout victory in October, Bolts have lost two straight to Jets
Next up for the Cats:
- Hosting Minnesota tonight; the LBC Game Thread sides with Moops over Moors at 7. Before then, check out Hockey Wilderness for the opposition's take.
Did you know:
- G Jose Theodore: 3-3-1(tie)-1 against his former club, with a 2.33/.914 and 1 shutout. Scott Clemmensen has never faced MIN.
Wednesday’s Organizational News:
- Ed Jovanovski, Jason Garrison and Marco Sturm all skated in practice; Jovo evidently will play tonight.
Today's Updates:
- Panthers have recalled forwards Michal Repik and Jon Matsumoto from San Antonio as D Nolan Yonkman heads back down.
Wednesday’s NHL Transactions:
- Phoenix acquired F Antoine Vermette from Columbus for G Curtis McElhinney, 2nd-rd pick ('12), 5th-rd pick ('13/conditional)
- Carolina re-signed F Tuomo Ruutu to four-year extension
To waivers:
- Tim Wallace - NYI
