Friday Caterwaul: Panthers GameDay Open Forum
The last two games have been quite revealing for the Jets who have struggled all year with consistency, especially on the road. The consecutive wins over Philadelphia and Tampa mean the Jets record on the road has improved to 9-14-4, still poor, but better than it was at the beginning of the week. Perhaps more important than the fact that both wins have been on the road is the fashion in which the Jets have won the last two games. The Jets came from behind to defeat Philadelphia on Tuesday night then the Jets were able to defeat the Lightning in overtime on Thursday despite giving up a late third period goal in a close, low-scoring game.

Why last night rocked:
- CAR over BOS, 3-0; Ward downs Rask as Canes sweep Broons in season series for first time. Ever.
Why last night jonesed:
- WPG over TB, 2-1 (OT): Wellwood ends it in late frame as 'Peg earns ninth road victory
- PHI over NSH, 4-1; Simmonds with a pair to sink Preds; these are the same Flyers who lost in a SO to the Jets a couple of days ago?
- NJ over MTL, 5-3; Parise, Clarkson with 2G each
Panthers Playoff Update:
- FLA did not play; playoff odds down 1.5 to 79% per Sports Club Stats
Why tonight is a Big Deal in SoFla, beyond the obvious:
- NYI at OTW, 7:30 p.m.
Next up for the Cats:
- Hosting Winnipeg this evening; the LBC Game Thread generates life from lifelessness at 7.
Did you know:
- Florida's Marco Sturm has 15 points (9G/2GWG) in 24 meetings vs WPG/ATL
Thursday’s Organizational Transactions:
- None

I don’t understand the big deal games, what’s Ottawa and Long Island’s effect on the Panthers? Unless the southeast has two playoff teams.

sens games are very much big deals. those games in hand only help us if they lose them.

How? The Sens play in the Northeast and the Southeast is so bad that the only playoff spot in the division seed.
by Alexander Calloway on Feb 3, 2012 11:42 AM EST up reply actions
that’s not for certain yet…. and the Sens losing helps the second place SE finisher get in. obviously we want to win the division…. but this is a “back up” plan one would say.
go isles.

and this isn’t quite a “game in hand” scenario. we also play tonight.
by alterego6487 on Feb 3, 2012 11:45 AM EST up reply actions
either way, we are against the Sens from now til’ April.

Except that the Sens have played four more games than the Panthers. It doesn’t matter if they lose games on a night the Panthers are playing or not. It’s a “game in hand” scenario until the teams have played the same number of games, whenever that is.

it is nice to see that the current division leaders have played the least amount of games in the conference as well as of now.

Unless the Sens, Leafs or Devils start losing and a couple of the SE clubs start winning. There’s enough season left for that to happen.

think they’ll go back to back with Clem this weekend or is Theo a possibility for Saturday?
Hard to see them rolling out Foster right now.
125 days until Prometheus
@hfialkov Panthers g Foster finally got a stall hoping to play vs Lightning#flapanthers
I agree that if Foster has to play, give him the Lightning because the Jets have more points (even if he’s in for a shelling). But if Foster does play… what’s the truth about Theo’s knee?
if the Panthers win tonight it will be the first time since mid December they would have posted back to back wins.
Let’s see a winning streak boys!
125 days until Prometheus
food for thought
Jets are winless in the second game of back to backs this season. let’s hope that trend continues.

So, seriously
People need to watch those Carolina-Boston games and see how in the world they have the Bruins’ losing every time.
The Florida Panthers have become Chicago's retirement home. This is oddly fitting.

Panthers take this one tonight. Bolts could be a toss-up. I’m hoping for a 7 game win streak myself.

Sturm is OUT Tonight
I hope that he feels well soon.
Who will step in then?
A lil thunder and a lil lightning is what the Cats are going to bring this year.
Indeed. I was pressed for time, hence the old standby.

What was the old standard excuse decades ago when folks realized Chekov wasn’t on the first season, meaning any contact he had with Khan would have been offscreen?
Something like Chekov was in the lav for a long long time, forcing to Khan to reply upon the Russian’s exit: “I shall never forget your face”…
