Saturday Caterwaul: Panthers GameDay Open Forum
Our team right now can’t give up 20 minutes of free frigging play and expect that you are going to be able to win the game. It was frustrating to watch us...I didn’t have enough good players.
- Jets coach Claude Noel commenting on his club’s effort in the first period of Friday’s eventual 2-1 Florida victory (Globe & Mail)

Why last night rocked:
- NYI over OTW, 2-1 (OT); Parenteau's 2A power Isles to extra-frame victory
Why last night jonesed:
- NYI over OTW, 2-1 (OT); SHG with 12 seconds remaining in 2nd period salvages a point for Sens
Panthers Playoff Update:
- Defeated WPG 2-1 (REG); playoff odds up 5.5 to 84.5% per Sports Club Stats
Why today is a Big Deal in SoFla, beyond the obvious:
- PIT at BOS, 1 p.m.; Pens winners of three straight in Beantown
- NJ at PHI, 1; Road club has won each of past three in 2011-12
- WSH at MTL, 2; Caps have won past three at Habs, combined score of 9-2
- TOR at OTW, 7; Sens victorious in last three (what is it about "threes" today?) vs Leafs
Next up for the Cats:
- Tonight from Tampa; the LBC Game Thread doesn't like the idea of spending all this time with a man who carries a gun and goes around whacking people at 6:30.
Did you know:
- Bolts have won their past three (there's that number again) vs Florida by a combined score of 11-5
Friday’s Organizational Transactions:
- None

No. According to GR, Dineen said last night that Clemmer’s playing.

He played in Switzerland last season. And for the Wild the two before that. So, it hasn’t been that long.

Does anyone now if a “Jets Nation” type of thing was at the game last night? There was a surprisingly large number of their fans there.
IN DALE WE TRUST
I chalk it up to locals who are fans of any Canadian team pulling for the ’lil brother.

If that’s the case here then they’ve picked a mighty big diversion tactic.

Guess who
is the number goalie prospect for?
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=615028
A lil thunder and a lil lightning is what the Cats are going to bring this year.
I find it interesting Salak is number 3. That makes that trade look really bad, or makes the rankings of goalies severely weak.
To follow up on that, Salak has only played 12 games with Chicago this year. I see nothing about an injury, but Rockford has carried three goalies most of the year. And Salak is on a one-way contract. On and to give the rankings less credence, Lehner is barely in the top 50 goalies for stats currently.

As expected, Mathieu Garon first goalie off the ice #tblightning

Report: Garrison to test free agent market?
From a French site quoting (sort of) Andy Strickland:
“According to the sources of Strickland, the defensive pillar would be looking for a new agreement that would yield $ 4.5 million per season. The columnist believes that the Panthers could trade it in February 27 so as not to risk losing it for absolutely nothing.”
Grain of salt, people.
Litter Box Cats - Your tarp-free Florida Panthers Colossus
I’ll believe it when he’s not signed and someone reputable starts talking about it the week before the deadline.

My take on the matter: First off, it’s Garrison. Nicest guy in the world and has said multiple times, as well as Tallon, that he wants to stay in SoFla and help this team win a championship. Second off, I don’t think he’d leave the team that gave him a chance to get into the NHL, even as much as sign him.
- Go Panthers -
maybe not but 4.5 million is a lot of cash for a guy only emerging this season, if this is even true
If I were Tallon, I’d give him somwhere between three and four million. Even 4.5 million is alright in my mind. We have lots of cap space, and Versteeg will find a raise around the same area.
- Go Panthers -
dont forget kulikov.. and markstrom after next season..
by Rob PKane McMahon on Feb 4, 2012 2:01 PM EST up reply actions
Each of the players will probably need a contract of between 3 to 4 million. Sammy should be resigned also for maybe 2 to 3 million.
- Go Panthers -
huberdeau will also be on the books.. howden may or may not be up..
the following year drew shore will also need a contract, whether he’s in the ahl or the big club i guess we’ll find out then
by Rob PKane McMahon on Feb 4, 2012 2:17 PM EST up reply actions
then again santorelli may not be around and who knows the fate of ellerby after his contract is up..
by Rob PKane McMahon on Feb 4, 2012 2:25 PM EST up reply actions
One year of production doesn’t translate into a $4.5 M contract. And as for all the “I wanna play in (name your town)” crap, that’s expected to be said, whether its true or not. If a player says otherwise, he’s hated for forever.
An almost $4 million raise? That makes all the contract signings this offseason look extremely conservative. Two to MAYBE three million max is what’s deserved.
I’d say about 2.75 would be fair..
Look at jaybo’s production in florida.. 15 goals back to be seasons, then he signed for a billion dollars elsewhere and drops off the face of the planet
by Rob PKane McMahon on Feb 4, 2012 2:33 PM EST up reply actions
Goals is not the measure of a defenseman. Scott Stevens, in his 13 seasons with Jersey, where he made a name for himself, only scored over 10 goals his first three seasons there. He only scored more than 30 points once besides those three seasons. I’m not saying Bouwmeester is the same type of player, just that there’s more to being a defenseman than goals. But I’m also not saying Bouw deserves the money he’s currently receiving either.
was just using it as an example.. Even when someone produces multiple years theres still no telling what will happen.
At least Garrison played a solid defensive game last season and is finally getting his chance to let the slapper rip which is showing in the goals category.. I’m not saying he’s going to end up being the next Doughty/Weber etc.. but his game is def shaping up
by Rob PKane McMahon on Feb 4, 2012 2:57 PM EST up reply actions
I very rarely agree with you, but I think you’re dead on here. There’s no way Garrison can command 4 1/2 million for one breakout season.
Hockey is a business, only we fans love it as a game.
Alright boys listen up. We won a game Wed. We won again yesterdy thats 2 in a row. If we win one today thats called a winning streak. It has happened before. So lets see some hustle, lets jack it up a bit. I have a feeling things are about to turn around for us.
Was thinking that myself.
Great movie. Didn’t know that that actor lived in my hometown until I read his obit.

Find me on Twidduh And look at my Marmots
No help for the Panthers in the standings...
Washington is up by one over the Habs but it’s early in that game.
Jersey is up by six over Philly at the end of two.
Pretty lopsided game (or at least score) there, with a 6-0 at the end of the second. What’s up with the Flyers???
Bobrovsky’s anyway. Bryz didn’t let in any once Laviolette put him in.

I won't probably be here for the game tonight,
So get a win for me!
(Always seem to when I don’t watch)
The Florida Panthers have become Chicago's retirement home. This is oddly fitting.
My feelings on the Florida Panthers' AHL affiliate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cR-WiGKZtg
I'm off to the game
Getting dinner before the game…look for me on TV…if I’m on I’ll probably be in a Red Panthers jersey and University of Miami cap.
