It's been said elsewhere before, and unquestionably worthy of a reminder: GM Dale Tallon's acquisition of cast-off soon-to-be-RFA forward Wojtek Wolski from the New York Rangers - in exchange for precisely nothing off the current roster - has been exactly what the Florida Panthers had anticipated in their continuing run-up to a post-season berth in 2011-12: 8 points, 25 SOG, and a minus-1 (recall that stretch of earlier losses) in 12 games with the Cats. Not to get too far ahead of our present reality, but his postseason numbers average 0.63 PPG with 8G-9A in 27 appearances with Colorado, Phoenix, and the Rags.

Why last night rocked:
- CHI over WSH, 5-2: Ovi, Perrault, Johansson - combined minus-7, 4 SOG as Caps hit 30 regulation-loss mark
- CAR(!) over WPG, 4-3 (REG): Jets were 7-1-2 at MTS in last ten before Sunday; Canes now 5 points back of 8th with only 9 games remaining
Why last night jonesed:
- Stumped, I am
Panthers Playoff Update:
- FLA did not play; playoff odds up 1.4 to 97.9% per Sports Club Stats
Why tonight is a Big Deal in SoFla:
Focusing on clubs within 5 points of Panthers (83P); teams FLA needs to lose in bold…
- TOR at BOS (85P), 7 p.m.: 10GF, 23GA in last five for Broons (1-4)
- NJ (87P) at NYR, 7:30 (NBC-SN): Devs 3-2 in season series
- WSH (78P) at DET, 7:30: Caps 3-5 on road in past eight
Next up for the Cats:
- Tomorrow at Philadelphia; the LBC Game Thread sees a - deserted? - prison campus beyond the treeline at 6:30
Did you know:
- F Mikael Samuelsson's current three-game point streak (2G/2A) is his second-best stretch of the season (four points from January 24 through February 4, 4G/1A)
