The Panthers have added to the family
The Panthers have announced that they have acquired RFA Casey Wellman from the New YorkRangers in exchange for a fifth round pick in 2014.
On acquiring Wellman Panthers GM Dale Tallon said “Casey is a young, highly skilled forward who adds more depth to our team. He can play both center and right wing and we feel he has the ability to play in a top line role within our team. We look forward to his contributions to our club.”
Wellman was acquired by the Rangers with a 2013 conditional seventh round pick from Minnesota for Erik Christensen back in February. In 41 career NHL games with the Wild Wellman picked up 4 goals and 9 assists. He produced 61 points in 78 games of AHL duty for the Wild's farm team in Houston.
Playing with AHL Connecticut this past season, Wellman had 9 goals and added 13 assists in 31 games. He also had nine points in nine playoff games for the Whale.
