Rampage Report: San Antonio splits weekend pair in Chicago to remain at .500

Vincent Trocheck has 4 points in 4 games for San Antonio - Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

After being shutdown in a 3-1 loss to the Wolves Saturday, the Rampage rebounded with a 4-2 victory on Sunday to even their record at 2-2.

The San Antonio Rampage managed to come away with a split decision against the Chicago Wolves at the Allstate Arena in suburban Rosemont this weekend.

In Saturday's game, the Rampage were stifled again by goaltender Jake Allen, who beat them in the season-opener, as the Wolves posted a 3-1 victory.

Corey Locke and Ty Rattie scored in the second period to put the Wolves ahead 2-0 before Jed Ortmeyer notched the only goal of the game for San Antonio. The goal was Ortmeyer's first of the season and was assisted by Bobby Butler and Drew Shore.

Mark Mancari scored at the 1:22 mark of the third period to restore Chicago's two-goal, while Allen shut the door on any potential Rampage comeback.

Allen finished the game with 30 saves and posted his second win of this season. Dov Grumet-Morris took the loss while turning aside 29 of 32 shots.

Sunday's rematch saw Michael Houser make his first start of the year for San Antonio and Vincent Trocheck knock in his first two professional goals as the Rampage skated away with a 4-2 win.

Alex Petrovic would open the scoring by beating Chicago's Matt Climie at 15:26 of the opening period. The goal was Petrovic's second of the campaign and was set up by Ortmeyer and Joey Crabb.

Chicago's David Shields would knot the game at one midway through the second period before Mike Mottau scored with one second remaining in the frame to give San Antonio the lead back. Mottau's goal was assisted by Petrovic and Bobby Butler.

San Antonio would take the momentum created by the late goal into the third as Trocheck scored on a nice wrist shot off a feed from Greg Rallo 18 seconds into the period.

Mark Mancari scored for the second-straight game to stop the bleeding and bring Chicago within a goal just 46 seconds later.

Trocheck would complete the scoring at the 5:40 mark with Colby Robak picking up the lone assist.

Houser finished the game with 28 saves on 30 shots to pick up the win as San Antonio even their record at 2-2.

San Antonio's next action will come this weekend with a home-and-home against the Texas Stars.
