Florida Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau has surgery on hip

Cats' Calder Trophy nominee had a successful first season despite playing in pain.

Not only did Jonathan Huberdeau tie Edmonton Oilers forward Nail Yakupov for the scoring lead among league rookies, he apparently did so while playing with a bum hip the entire season.

The Florida Panthers announced yesterday that Huberdeau underwent a successful procedure on his hip in Nashville. The club expects Huberdeau to make a full recovery and to be ready to go when training camp opens in September.

Huberdeau played in all 48 games this past season and scored 14 goals while adding 17 assists. He finished second on the team in points behind Tomas Fleischmann. One would expect those numbers to go up next season especially if Huberdeau is 100% healthy.
