The Great Seal of the Florida Panthers

It took a long time but I finished it. Went through so many different sizes and prototypes. Switched colors and added backgrounds before I took a step back and simplified it to this. It draws inspiration from the happy Cat logo, the FIU logo, the new UConn logo, and of course the Florida state seal.

I didn't start off the way I wanted to. You can't hide under a pillow and you sure can't hide on the ice. You just have to grab the bull by the horns and work hard, make it work. Hard work does pay off. And we're playing very well. I'm happy for the opportunity.

HF: "Top prospects for Florida Panthers starting to make an impact in the NHL"

"Perhaps the most unexpected aspect of Huberdeau's play in the NHL has been his effectiveness in the corners and in high-traffic areas. His abilities in open ice situations, where his skills and vision have time to bloom, have always been evident, but his play around the net has been better than expected. He is simply a NHL star in the making and one of the top candidates for this season's Calder Trophy."

- More from HF's Brian Fogarty above.

Panthers "Blackhawks South" Jersey Concept

If the Lightning can go full on "Baby of the Red Wings and Maple Leafs" jersey set then why can't the Panthers have their own spin on the Hawks but only as a 3rd jersey?

OHL Western Conference Coaches Poll: Trocheck rocks, basically.

Vince Trocheck ranked first in faceoffs, second in shootout shooters (probably based on reputation, as he's gone 1-for-5 this year, but was 5-for-10 last year and 3-for-5 the year before), and third for "most dangerous in the goal area" by the coaches. I think he should maybe have gotten a few more mentions, especially for defensive forward and penalty killer (hello league leader in shorthanded goals), but three is obviously not bad at all and Plymouth has a ton of guys to put up for these things.

CHN: Panthers prospect Bjugstad "more than a scorer"

CHN: Panthers prospect Bjugstad "more than a scorer"

From College Hockey News:

"In a time where many top picks that choose the college route spend one or two years on campus, the expectation is that a player with the size, skating ability and skill of Bjugstad will leave.

Instead, he decided to return to the Gophers for one more season and in the process raised expectations for both the team and himself.

Whether those expectations were fair can be debated. For many, however, anything short of Bjugstad, who scored 25 goals as a sophomore, dominating college hockey and leading Minnesota to a national title would be a disappointment."

More from our pal Nathan Wells on Florida's 2010 first-rounder above.
