Deadline Buyers: Who the Florida Panthers may target in the next week
The common denominator to the Panthers' consecutive regulation losses this week and much of the season does not lie in shaky goaltending or pesky injuries, it's a lack of offensive production during any given time. Besides a few blowout scores scattered across the season, the Panthers usually score two goals a game and perhaps an empty netter; when the offense shows up the team usually wins or at least forces overtime, when the offense drifts away so does the chance to win.
Relying on surprising (but not exactly spectacular) goaltending from Jose Theodore and Scott Clemmensen, Florida wins games by the slightest of margins, often regardless of the difficulty of the opponent. As the one goal losses piled up last season, so have one goal wins this season. It's certainly an improvement, but it doesn't make for a dominant team play that goes on winning streaks or opens up wide point cushions within the division. As the deadline approaches, the obvious need is scoring; scoring to get the first goal, scoring to build leads and scoring to close out games. Anything else is just side-tracking the problem.
NHL Booster Club Convention coming to South Florida
There's a pretty big deal headed to our neighborhood this summer, and many of you probably weren't even aware of it: The NHL Booster Club (umbrella organization for the individual clubs) will be holding its annual convention in South Florida from August 10-12, with a (literal, in a few cases) boatload of activities on the schedule in the days before and after. More after the jump...
Panthers' Campbell brings subtle elements to 2012 NHL All-Star Game
Yet another All-Star "game" featuring wildly-unrealistic scoring, not a trace of physicality, and a complete lack of defense - all of which fans anticipated - was highlighted for Florida's Faithful by the efforts of blueliner Brian Campbell (#51 above) in a meaningless exhibition to all but those who have longed to see a Panther squarely - and legitimately - in the league's spotlight.

Panthers' lone All-Star Brian Campbell selected in 11th round of NHL Fantasy Draft
Setting the benchmark for highest-picked Panther in an All-Star draft (or more accurately, the first-ever Panther to be picked in an All-Star draft) our buddy Brian Campbell was selected by Team Chara in the 11th round. Not that this means anything in the real world, but Soupy was taken before Phoenix's Keith Yandle, Toronto's Dion Phaneuf, former Panther Dennis Wideman and Vancouver's Alexander Edler. While I was fully expecting Campbell to receive the dubious honor of being the last of the defensemen to be picked, keep in mind Campbell is narrowly holding on to second place in points by a defenseman with 35 and has genuinely rekindled his offensive game to deserve All-Star recognition. That said, there's no shame in being selected in the middle of the pack for defenseman in a weekend of completely absurd fan festivities. And for those wondering, Logan Couture will be driving home in the KesselMobile v.2 for being picked last overall.
Watch Campbell crush Team Alfredsson all whilst rocking the blue in the 2012 All-Star Game, 4pm on Sunday.
