Poll: LBC Community Member Location Census for 2012

My name Tomas, my number 82, my hometown within selection 11

An unofficial census, of course, but a quick way to get a feel for where y'all are strolling in from to chat up the Cats, rats and a merciless stretch of injuries. Hearty thanks to our crosstown pals at Fishstripes for the inspiration, and to you for gracing our doorway each day.

Please note, there was simply no way to break every geographic region of the planet into a reasonably-sized poll, so if your own little slice of Eden went unrepped, the fault is entirely my own (hence the "hotbeds" choice).

Reports: Panthers sign 3-time Stanley Cup champion Madden

Photo

In what may be this week's worst-kept secret, the Florida Panthers - depending upon which source you choose to follow, and there are many - have signed former Selke Trophy-winner center John Madden. The club has not as yet confirmed any deal.

At 38 years old and without a contract since spring, Madden last played for the Minnesota Wild in 2010-11 as a teammate of current Cats starter Jose Theodore, scoring 25 points (12 goals) in 76 games on a heavily defensive-minded club, which worked to his strengths, though the organization faced a soon-to-come rebuild.

In parts of ten seasons with the New Jersey Devils, Madden was a member of two Stanley Cup winners in 1999-00 (ironically playing against Florida's last playoff squad) and 2002-03. A Frank Selke Trophy recipient in 2001 as the league's best defensive forward highlighted his years with the Devils while collecting 297 points (140 goals) in 712 games.

Signing with the Blackhawks as a free agent in the summer of 2009, Madden, as an alternate captain, went on to score 10 goals and 13 assists in 79 games with the eventual league champions, playing alongside Kris Versteeg, Brian Campbell and Tomas Kopecky.

A penalty-kill beast with a knack for faceoff victories, Madden has recorded 29 shorthanded points (18 goals) and 23 gamewinners over a career that has generally seen him utilized in a third-line role. Considering the brutal number of injuries to the forward ranks, Florida may have found a quality stop-gap measure who fits the blueprint, regardless of age.

Litter-box-cats_png_medium

Yep, the updated SBN iPhone app is upon us, chock full of revisions and improvements suggested by you since the initial launch several months ago (jump to next unread, mark all unread, much faster-loading comments, in-line replying, FanPosts, in-app browser, and a bunch of others). It's pretty sweet, and available here.

As we're always on the lookout for improvements, we encourage your participation in formulating the next version, so let our tech folks know what you have in mind at support@sbnation.com.

For those Android die-hards among us (of which I am one) your app is - thankfully - on track for a mid-December release :)

Divisionally speaking, just what have these guys done?

For those understandably curious as to how Florida's newest Panthers have historically performed at the BankAtlantic Center - and perhaps more importantly, around the NHL's Southeast Division - walk this way...

Got plans tonight? Change 'em...

Several of our very good friends within Cats fandom have come together to help out the Florida Panthers Foundation with a superb event this evening. Yes, tonight.

Beginning whenever you arrive at 7pm, Duffy's Sports Grill in Plantation will be hosting a completely fan-organized charity drive for funds to aid in the research of pediatric cancer. From the event's FaceBook page:

You'll order off the menu, pay for your own check (Duffy's is including a 20% gratuity to all checks due to the large numbers expected), and make a small donation ($10 per person) to the Florida Panthers Foundation. 100% of the proceeds from the evening will go to the foundation.

A number of raffles will be held (with some very cool merchandise donated by the club and fans alike) while offering an opportunity to help a great cause and enjoying an evening with some terrific folks who share your passion for the Panthers. Come on out!

Last Call: Tickets for LBC / Florida Panthers Opening Night Luxury Suite

Bac_suite2_medium

This is our final invitation for you (and friends) to hang with us crazies at the inaugural Litter Box Cats / Florida Panthers Home Opener Luxury Suite on October 15th - yep, that's game number one at the BankAtlantic Center, featuring the Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning.

We're rapidly closing in on an expected sellout of the 50 available tickets for the event; in case you're on the fence - or wondering whether to re-market those seats you already have - here's the deal...

Admission is $100, which includes the following exclusive goodies:

  • Access to the LitterBoxCats suite (largest in the arena, with private stadium-seating balcony overlooking the ice, plush chairs, TV monitors...the works)
  • Free food & non-alcoholic beverages served in the suite (alcoholic beverages available for purchase at BAC kiosks)
  • Lexus Club VIP Parking Pass (1 per order) - as in "right up front" at the main entrance
  • Opportunity to participate in a raffle to win a team-signed stick (1 in 50 shot at winning)
  • A postgame group photo at center ice
  • Special gift for each ticketholder courtesy of LBC and our partner Flamingo Tracks Promotional Products (no, it's not a pen knife or pitot tube cover)

Children and Bolts fans are of course heartily invited. Even you Raw Charge hooligans :)

This is an incredible opportunity to attend a hockey game in a very unique, all-inclusive fashion (and if you've never been inside a "skybox", it's just that much more impressive - and you can't do it anywhere for 100 bones), so if you're interested in rock-starring it with us for an unforgettable evening don't hesitate in contacting Panthers representative Zach Cravitz as soon as possible at 954-835-7223 or cravitzz@sselive.com .

Note: If you already hold ticket(s) for this game but wish to partake in the Suite, you may be eligible to exchange them for another date; hit Zach above with an inquiry.

On behalf of the entire LBC staff, we look forward to seeing you on a very special night!

A Tale of Two Teams: Nashville Predators at Florida Panthers Pre-Season Double-Header Edition

Photo

Yesterday's preseason doubleheader could not have featured two strikingly different games if they tried. The afternoon game was a minor league mucking and grinding affair while the evening game was pretty close to standard NHL action.

The afternoon game featured mostly bubble players, with a couple of NHL third-liners while the evening game was mostly NHL players with blue-chip prospects. The Panthers had a large number of their most well-known players out of the game and in the concourse signing autographs. Those players included Stephen Weiss, Kris Versteeg, Tomas Fleischmann, Thomas Kopecky, Ed Jovanovski and Jose Theodore. The Predators were missing some of their high end talent as well, including Ryan Suter, Shea Weber and Pekka RInne.
