What will happen to naming rights to the Panthers' arena in Sunrise, now the BankAtlantic Center?
BankAtlantic reportedly paid $20 million in 2005 for 10-year naming rights to the arena that hosts the National Hockey League's Florida Panthers team. Panthers officials have said they expect the center to be renamed for BB&T after the sale.
As Randy Carlyle candidly was telling reporters outside the Maple Leafs dressing room how his team had just "self-destructed," you could hear the home fans outside mocking Toronto supporters by singing "Hey, hey, hey, goodbye." Can it get any lower for the Maple Leafs organization than being ridiculed by Florida Panther spectators?
Listen, I can completely understand why someone would have a problem with a fan incessantly pounding away on a cowbell without regard for the people around them. I certainly wouldn’t want to have to endure that. But to just call for their outright banning in the BankAtlantic Center [...] is wrong. I’ve said it literally hundreds of times over the years, and I’ll say it again; this is a hockey arena, it’s not the opera and it’s not the library.
Just wanted to thank the Bolts Faithful who made the journey cross-state in order to hang with us on Saturday night. An exceptional bunch who are welcome anytime :)
Thank you for taking a chance on us!
"You can say that you’ve got an open-door policy, but you know what? When there’s no door there it makes for a free flow of information both ways. It’s a little easier when you walk down the hallway instead of having to wonder what’s going on behind there. So I just asked them to take a couple of those doors off the hinges."
"Yes, I would."
The BankAtlantic Center doors will open at 6 p.m., just in time for the first National semifinal match-up between Virgina Commomnwealth and Butler, and a large number of the arena’s television screens will be tuned in to the hoops action. SSE will also make the UConn-Kentucky game available on many of it's in-house screens until the building closes following the end of the Cats-Penguins game.
"I don't know what to say. It got under my skin to see that. I've seen a lot here. I don't know where these things come from, who makes these decisions. It's certainly not the right way to do things. The jersey off your back is fine, that's good for the fans. But confetti and streamers?"
"I clearly do not understand why people don’t attend more hockey games at the Bank Atlantic Center. The parking is easy, the fans are friendly, the mascots are hilarious, they have good fan giveaways and even the BOVA Ice Dancers are fun. They seriously should have to be able to skate, like the girls in Tampa, but who am I too complain. They even had a curling promo for the new curling leagues forming at the Panthers practice facility. I suppose people could complain about the drive from Fort Lauderdale, but it really is easy to get too. The team sucks? It didn’t look like it last night, course this Flyer team also makes backup, unknown goaltenders look like future hall of famers, so who am I to judge?"
