From Jim Matheson:
"If (Panthers search committee chair Bill) Torrey asks his contemporaries - Glen Sather, Cliff Fletcher, Lou Nanne - what guy they'd pitch his way, Risebrough, the former Minnesota GM, would probably get their nod."
No, no, and no. First off, Torrey is aware of the era he's waddling in, which is nothing even remotely resembling the days when he put together the inaugural Cats, discounting any consideration of the aforementioned names (who were for the most part already well into their careers in management.) We're talking the early 1990s, kids.
C'mon. This list of "contemporaries" is translated from a glyph in Mayan ruins. No one is seeking out these folks, nor their antiquated opinions on who might be a winner in this day and age.
Wanna re-live the high-scoring eighties? Great...take your pick. But these guys and their heavenly choices aren't getting any team to the promised land.
"The dilemma Panthers GM Jacques Martin faces is that his team sits in seventh place in the Eastern Conference and has not made the playoffs in seven seasons. So you can understand Martin's desperation."
