Dobber Hockey features Panthers' goaltending rundown

A very slick profile from DH's Justin Goldman: What really impresses me about Florida’s depth chart is their effective goalie drafting. Not once in franchise history has the team chosen a goalie in the first round. In fact, 33% of their drafted goalies came in the second round (six of 18). The team found a gem in Mark Cheverie in the 7th round (193rd overall in 2006) and they did plenty of homework by plucking Markstrom 31st overall in 2008.

Steve X with a mountain of info from Sunrise and Points West, plus some Garrison and Tarnasky love. Says Pete DeBoer: "It’d be hard not to pencil (Jason Garrison in next season) based on what he’s done. We like what we see. He’s a great athlete. He’s in great shape. You pencil him in, but you have an eraser in the other hand just in case, especially with young guys." Commentary and the standard innuendo to follow here on Sunday.

From the official site: Cheverie, 23, was recently selected as one of the top ten candidates for the 2010 Hockey Baker Award, honoring college hockey’s top player, after finishing the season as the national leader in wins (24), save percentage (.937) and shutouts (6). The Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia native posted a 24-4-3 overall mark while playing for the University of Denver this season, helping his team earn the No. 1 ranking in the Division I standings. An expected but pleasant bit of news.

"Jacob Markstrom's contract in Sweden is up at the end of this year and the plan is to sign him and bring him to North America next year. We also have a young goalie named Marc Cheverie at Denver University, who we'll move forward and sign, as well. We think that combined with the other young guys we have in the organization, the future looks good for goaltending. Panthers GM Randy Sexton discussing Florida's goaltending outlook, somehow declining to call by name his club's current starter. Or backup.

Panthers Prospect "Snap Shot" from The Pipeline Show

"Florida has consistently worn one of the ugliest jerseys in the NHL and recently added a third sweater design that is a departure from their usual red-gold-blue disaster. However, the current alternate is basically an unoriginal mock up of the Springfield Falcons with a borrowed Quinnipiac Bobcats crest. No points for originality but at least they look a lot better." Seriously, there's some good stuff on Ellerby, Repik, Markstrom and others.
