Just when I thought Mike Keenan had lapped Pat Quinn for good in the all-time coaching wins race, within one week Calgary fires Keenan and Quinn, 66, resurfaces with the other Alberta team. Quinn should easily pile up the 16 wins needed to reclaim fourth place from Keenan. Unless ... surely Keenan won't get yet another crack, will he? Some initial Oilers fan impressions at Copper and Blue.

And to think he was about to acquire Josef Stumpel... "Our team did not meet expectations," (GM Darryl) Sutter said in the statement. "Following detailed evaluation over the past three weeks, and taking into consideration all factors affecting our season ending result, we believe this is a necessary change required to allow our team to continue toward our objective of winning the Stanley Cup." Iron Mike's out of work. I'm kind of surprised by this. Although I'd guess this is the only major change Sutter makes.

Rick Tocchet bemoans the teams conditioning... Again. And while invoking the rigors of past training camps that Mike Keenan had Tocchet work through, we get a glimpse at what is to come for the Lightning in September. "Camp Torturella" may have been frowned upon and cursed, but the players lasted the season with the conditioning that was laid out over the off season and the stress-testing of camp. And while I know Rick should be able to get through most anything regarding camp being grueling next fall, I have to wonder if former Lightning Head Coach and current Rangers coach John Tortorella will be given the ability to work with the Rangers given the New York media's interfering glare?
