Former Panthers assistant coach Mike Kitchen joins Blackhawks

Not a bad few weeks for ex-Cat management: Kitch gets a gig with the current Cup champions while Randy Sexton hooks up with the Pens. Solid work.

Panthers name Mike Santos Assistant GM

Dirk at On The Forecheck was quick on the draw wth this one. We'll have more when everything settles down. Sounds like a good hire; Tallon getting accolades all over Twitter. Don't know what this means for Sexton...

Sun-Sentinel: Tallon tells Vokoun he has "no interest" in shopping veteran goaltender

From Steve Gorten: "It's nice to know a little bit where I stand," (goalie Tomas) Vokoun said Tuesday. "As you know, nothing is guaranteed in this business, but at least I know how he feels. I got a whole different feeling from that [conversation] than from my end-of-year meeting with [then-GM Randy Sexton]. …Randy didn't tell me he was going to trade me. But I just wasn't sure." Doesn't mean other clubs aren't interested. Still, with Tallon claiming Jacob Markstrom will start his season in Rochester, this is not an entirely surprising admission. Got to wonder how this plays in the Clemmensen household. More notes at the link.

VanMurph's View: Panthers have taken "huge" step forward with Tallon

Another terrific post from Murphy at the official site: "(Florida's ownership has) begun to deliver on the promises they made back in November, and as a Panthers fan, I could not be any happier about it. They have brought in a blue-chip General Manager, and it appears that they are going to give him the increased budget with which to turn the ship around. It’s been a long time, a very long time, and the people who show up each night to cheer for the Panthers deserve a winner. Dale Tallon could be just the guy to make that happen."

Talking Panthers, Amerks, Tallon, Tarps, and Dadonov Saturday morning

The good folks at Rochester's Blue Line Radio Show via SportsRadio 950 ESPN were kind enough to invite me on Saturday's program to discuss what's proved to be a whirlwind few days. With the week we've had, it should be fun. Check in with us around 10 am at the link above.

Panthers' Torrey to appear on tonight's "NHL Hour"

Longtime Cats alternate governor Bill Torrey will appear with Gary Bettman on this evening's "NHL Hour" (NHL.com and satellite providers), no doubt discussing which shades of blue look sharpest on industrial-grade tarps. Dale Tallon's name might pop up too. Show starts at 6 pm; the Bowtied One will follow Mike Richter, according to the presser. And keep in mind, it's a call-in show, so have at it: 877-645-6696.

Panthers' David Booth: per team, season is over

From the Sun-Sentinel: DeBoer: "...No one knows 'whether you're going to be the next Eric Lindros or whether you're going to be able to come back and be fine."

Randy Sexton Comments on Amerks, Says Things are Ok

The Amerks are 3-3 in their past six games and 4-6 in the past 10 games. The Amerks have also been outscored 35-29 over the past 10 games. As for the goalies, I’m not really sure how they’ve gotten better. If the guy had traveled to Rochester to watch some games he would have seen with his own two eyes that things are not as they appear.

Sun-Sentinel: Panthers GM Sexton says "No Fire-Sale" on Wednesday

From Steve Gorten: "(Randy Sexton) said he doesn’t feel like has to make a certain number of deals by Wednesday. He also said he wants y’all to know that the trade deadline is just the beginning of his plans when it comes to changing the makeup of the roster."

Rochester not impressed with parent Panthers

From the Democrat and Chronicle: (Florida's) farm team is doing a nose-dive and no one wanted to see first-hand what’s going on? Do they realize the prospects are showing they don’t know how to win — again. Oh, wait, DeBoer and company see that every night with the big team. Big thanks to On Frozen Pond; GR's comments can be found here. More to come on this in a bit.
