Two Panthers were involved in Tuesday's action:
- SWE 3, FRA 2: Sweden's (2-0) Jacob Markstrom won his inaugural WC start, holding off 21 shots to keep France (0-2) winless in the tournament. The 2008 2nd-round Florida pick (31st overall) is currently Jonas Gustavsson's (TOR) backup. Since '08, Markstrom is 13-4 (2 shutouts) in international play with Sweden. And your Florida Panthers own his rights. Yep.
- RUS 4, KAZ 1: Defenseman Dmitry Kulikov scored no points (even +/-) in 13:29 during Russia's (2-0) win over Kazakhstan. Alexander Semin picked up a goal and two assists.
- NOR: 3, CZE 2: Tomas Vokoun got a rest in place of backup Ondrej Pavelec, who surrendered three goals on 15 shots in an historical international shocker as Norway (1-1) slammed the heavily favored Czech Republic 3-2. Pal Grotnes stopped 44 shots for the unlikely victors. No-brainer alert: expect T-Vo to return for Thursday's game against Sweden, likely vs. Gustavsson.
