2012 WJC Day Nine: Russia defeats Canada to advance to gold medal game

The United States will advance to the 2013 World Junior Championships, after their 12-2 rout over Latvia. Nick Bjugstad had a fantastic night, scoring five points (3G/2A) off sevenshots and had a plus-five. Kyle Rau helped the United States out with three points (1G/2A) on five shots and plus-one. Connor Brickley did not play. The Americans last game will be tomorrow against Switzerland at 5:00 pm EST. Both teams will be playing for pride as both will advance to the 2013 World Junior Championships next season.

In a dramatic game between two rivals, Finland lost 3-2 to Sweden in the shootout. Joonas Donskoi had zero points on four shots, and finished with a natural plus-minus. Ending the night was Russia’s 6-5 defeat of Canada. Yaroslav Kosov and Quinton Howden were both scoreless, while Jonathan Huberdeau had an assist and 22 penalty minutes, missing most of the third period for a ten minute misconduct. The gold medal game between Sweden and Russia will be at 8:00 pm EST, with the bronze medal game being at 3:30 pm EST between Canada and Finland.
