Tough Weekend For Matthias And Linz

Florida forward notches one assist as the Black Wings dropped two weekend tilts on the road.

Florida Panthers center Shawn Matthias was held without a point and finished with a -1 rating during a 4-2 loss to EC VSV in Friday night action from Austria's EBEL. Matthias managed an assist and again finished -1 in a 6-4 loss to Red Bull Salzburg on Sunday.

Marco Pewal and Mario Altmann each scored two goals and added an assist to power EC VSV to the 4-2 home win on Friday. Danny Irman and Mike Ouellette scored the goals for Black Wings Linz.

In the Sunday contest, Matthias set up a Brett Engelhardt goal to put Black Wings ahead 2-1 in the second period but Justin Di Benedetto netted a hat trick to lead Red Bull Salzburg to the 6-4 win. Mike Ouellette scored twice and Matrin Grabher-Meier added the other goal for Linz.

Shawn Matthias has posted 3 points (1G/2A) in four games for Black Wings Linz so far this season. Linz is currently in eighth place in the EBEL standings.
