Florida forward Stephen Weiss has 29 career points (11G) in 46 appearances vs Carolina but remains without a goal (2A) in three games against the Hurricanes in 2011-12

Despite a widespread belief which continues to run rampant throughout Florida Panthers fandom regarding Carolina's perceived "ownership" of the Cats during and since the Hurricanes' Stanley Cup championship season, the numbers weave a different tale when the focus is shifted to Sunrise: Florida is 12-4 in regulation games at home against the Canes beginning in 2005-06.

Overtime sessions and shootouts are historically to be avoided, as the Panthers have dropped 2 of the latter and 4 of the former, though Carolina hasn't emerged victorious following extra-time or a skills competition against their division rival on Broward County soil since March 23, 2009.

Why last night rocked:

  • BUF over OTW, 4-3 (SO): grasping for anything here

Why last night jonesed:

  • WSH (74P) over BOS, 4-3 (REG): minus-2 for Krejci, Seguin as Vokoun stops 30

Panthers Playoff Update:

Why tonight is a Big Deal in SoFla, beyond the obvious:

Focusing on clubs within 5 points of Panthers (75P); teams FLA needs to lose in bold

  • TOR at WSH (74P), 5 p.m.: Caps are 6-2 vs Leafs in last eight

Next up for the Cats:

  • Another Sunday home matinee, this time featuring Carolina. The LBC Game Thread learns around 4:30 or so that though we've done some very solid work here, it isn't quite Ivy League; meanwhile get to know our buds at Canes Country.

Need Tickets for tonight's game?

Did you know:

  • Panthers have won three straight over Hurricanes; last time for such a stretch? Four in a row from January 25, 2003 to October 13, '03.

Saturday’s Organizational News:

  • Optional skate/practice included injured-but-progressing Dmitry Kulikov, Scottie Upshall and Kris Versteeg . No word yet on status of forward Jack Skille.
  • Michal Repik is the latest (regulation) hero for Rampage
