Forward Kris Versteeg completed a brilliant sequence leading to Tomas Fleischmann's first period goal against Detroit

"I'm a little worried about their eating habits when we come to Detroit. [Ed Jovanovski] takes them over to Windsor and mom's home cooking the night before the game."

- Coach Kevin Dineen, via a highly recommended article at the Windsor Star

Whether or not Momma Jovo's culinary talents lent themselves to Sunday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Red Wings is debatable, but the Florida Panthers unquestionably took a bite out of Buffalo's playoff hopes by grabbing what has to be the most ridiculously important single point of the season to date.

Final - 4.1.2012 1 2 3 OT SO Total
Florida Panthers 1 0 0 0 0 1
Detroit Red Wings 0 0 1 0 1 2

So what happened last night that matters to us?

  • Beyond gaining a massive point over both Washington (88P) and Buffalo (86P) in a game that no one had Florida even showing up for? Nothing.

Panthers Playoff Update:

  • FLA lost to DET 1-2 (SO); playoff odds up 1.1 to 99.3% per Sports Club Stats
  • Odds for the Caps and Sabres

Why tonight is a Big Deal in SoFla:

  • WSH (88P/3GR) at TB, 7 p.m. (NBC-SN): Caps lead season series 3-2 but home team has won every game. Not much question as to what we'll be watching this evening; mosey on over to Raw Charge for the thread.

Next up for the Cats:

  • Hosting Winnipeg tomorrow; the LBC Game Thread gets rolling at 7.
  • Need Tickets for it? Seats starting at $5 via TiqIQ. Second-to-last home game, kids...and it just might be a clincher.

Did you know:

  • The Panthers have seven solid reasons - among others - for not underestimating the Jets; regardless of season-long road woes the Peggers are 2-1-1 in last four away from MTS, the two victories coming in D.C. and Raleigh. Who's left on Florida's schedule again?

Sunday’s Organizational News:

  • Scratches vs Detroit: F Krys Barch, Jerred Smithson, Mike Santorelli, D Keaton Ellerby
  • Kyle Quincey will be facing the Shanaban today for this hit on Tomas Kopecky. Suspendable?
  • That Datsyuk...still mesmerized by his creativity
  • Markstrom, Rampage...games like these give fans - and franchises - nightmares
