Florida Panthers defenseman Brian Campbell set up Steven Stamkos' overtime game-winner, had no shots on goal and finished with a +1 rating while logging 23:46 of ice time as Canada squeaked by Slovenia 4-3 yesterday in Stockholm. Stamkos ended the tilt 2:36 into the extra period. It was his second goal of the game and sixth of the tournament. Matt Duchene and Brenden Dillon also scored for Canada. Jan Urbas notched two goals to stake Slovenia to an early 2-0 lead. Devan Dubnyk made 17 saves to pick up the win. Canada finished second in Group S behind undefeated Switzerland and will play Sweden next.

Tomas Fleischmann became the first Panther to dent the twine at the World Championship. Fleischmann bagged the first two goals of the game during the opening period for the Czech Republic today in Stockholm as the Czechs advanced to the next round by routing Norway 7-0. The Cats forward finished the game with 6 shots on goal and posted a +1 rating while logging 13:51 minutes of ice time. Tomas Plekanec dished out three first period assists and goaltenders Ondrej Pavelec and Pavel Francouz combined on the shutout. The Czech Republic will take on Switzerland in the quarterfinals.

Tomas Kopecky set up Branko Radivojevic's game-opening tally, fired 3 shots on goal, went 1/1 on draws and finished with a +1 rating while logging 17:04 of ice time as Slovakia advanced to the quarterfinals by surprising the USA 4-1 Tuesday in Helsinki. Nick Bjugstad went scoreless while logging 10:29 minutes of ice time. He won 3/4 faceoffs, had no shots on goal and finished with an even rating. Slovakia jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Danny Kristo scored the only goal for the Americans in the second period. Marko Dano tallied the last Slovak goal into an empty net to put the game away. Rastislav Stana picked up the win while Ben Bishop took the loss for the US. Dropping the game cost the Americans the top spot in Group H and set up a rematch with Russia. Slovakia will take on group winner Finland.

Marcel Goc assisted on Christian Ehrhoff's game-winning goal in overtime as Germany beat France 3-2 today in Helsinki. Goc logged 18:05 minutes of ice time, had one shot on goal, won 13/23 faceoffs and finished with a +1 rating. Both teams failed to advance to the next round. Ehrhoff opened the scoring in the first period before France took a 2-1 lead into the third period on goals from Julien Desrosiers and Antoine Roussel. Germany's Michael Wolf tied things up 1:24 into the final period. Rob Zepp picked up the win in goal while Cristobal Huet took the loss.

Jacob Markstrom made his third start of the tournament during Sweden's 4-2 come from behind victory over Denmark today in Stockholm. Markstrom stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced. Daniel and Henrik Sedin each scored a goal and added an assist. The Danes led 1-0 after the first period and 2-1 after two but could not hold on for the upset as the Swedes exploded for three goals in the third. Sweden will take on Canada in the quarterfinal round.
