Florida Panthers sign D Greg Zanon and C Brett Olson

The Florida Panthers have signed veteran defenseman Greg Zanon and center Brett Olson to one-year, two-way contracts. The new acquistions will likely be part of the supporting cast around some the organization’s top prospects in San Antonio this season.

The 34-year-old Zanon has been playing professionally since 2003-04 when he joined the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals after four years at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The Burnaby, BC native has appeared in 493 NHL regular season games, suiting up for the Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche. After being bought out by Colorado, Zanon played 24 games for the San Antonio Rampage last season and was an alternate captain. He was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators, 156th overall, in the 2000 Entry Draft.

Olson is a 27-year-old center who spent the last two seasons with the Abbotsford Heat. In 145 career AHL games, he has scored 25 goals and 37 assists. The Superior, WI native played four years at Michigan Tech after finishing his junior career with the Waterloo Black Hawks.
