IIHF Worlds: Florida Panthers quiet in U.S., Canada wins

USA 3, Switzerland 2 (Group B)
Craig Smith and Tyler Johnson scored third period goals to lead Team America to a tough 3-2 win over Switzerland. Former Florida Panthers goaltender Tim Thomas stopped 27 shots to post his second straight win. Vincent Trocheck went 4/11 on face-offs, fired two shots on goal, and went -1 while logging 14:48 TOI. Jimmy Hayes logged 7:12 of ice time, had one shot on goal and finished with a -1 rating. Drew Shore won 2 of 4 draws, had no shots on goal, and ended the game with an even rating in 6:16 TOI. Canada 4, Slovakia 1 (Group A)
Joel Ward scored twice as Canada rebounded from their opening loss to France with a 4-1 win over Slovakia. Erik Gudbranson logged exactly 12 minutes of ice time and finished with an even rating. Gudbranson also took a roughing minor during the third period. Jonathan Huberdeau played 12:21, had one shot on goal, and ended the game with a +1 rating.
