The San Antonio Rampage wrapped up a four-game road trip by splitting a pair of games against the Charlotte Checkers. The Silver and Black rallied for a 3-2 shootout win on Friday before falling 3-1 in Sunday's matinee.
Rampage 3, Checkers 2 (SO)
San Antonio prevailed in the first game of the set, rallying late before taking a 3-2 shootout decision over the Checkers. Blake Parlett opened the scoring at 8:24 of the second period. Mark Mancari and Connor Brickley picked up the assists on Parlett's sixth of the season. Charlotte's Trevor Carrick finally solved Dan Ellis midway through the third period to tie the game. The Checkers took the lead at 17:03 when Chad LaRose struck for a power-play goal. Ryan Martindale scored from Rocco Grimaldi with 18 seconds left in the third period to send the game to overtime. Alex Petrovic was the only scorer in shooting, converting in the eighth round to give San Antonio the win. Ellis stopped 31 shots in regulation and overtime, while Drew MacIntyre finished with 36 saves.
Checkers 3, Rampage 1
Despite getting out-shot 26-15, Charlotte bounced back to take Sunday's rematch by a 3-1 count. After a scoreless first period, Phil Di Giuseppe opening the scoring with a breakaway goal at 6:51 of the second. The Rampage countered four minutes later when Steven Hodges bagged his first pro goal from Brett Olson and Greg Zanon. Chad LaRose restored Charlotte's lead later in the frame and set up Ben Holmstrom's empty-netter with 12 second left in the tilt. Drew MacIntyre made 25 stops to post the win, while Dan Ellis made 12 saves in the losing effort.
The Silver and Black have a busy weekend in front of them. They will host the Texas Stars on Friday and the Oklahoma City Barons on Staurday before facing off against the Stars again in Cedar Park on Sunday.
