  • NOTES: The outstanding Hockey Fights Cancer program returns to the BB&T this evening; find out how you can participate here. Aleksander Barkov is out for 3-4 weeks with what is NOT a broken hand. Big Nick Bjugstad (1G-1A vs DAL Saturday) retains his newfound position on the top troika between Jaromir Jagr (1-1) and Jonathan Huberdeau (0-2). With his club struggling a bit to start the season, Avalanche coach Patrick Roy decided to shuffle his line combinations for tonight's tilt. Dennis Everberg is joining Matt Duchene and Jarome Iginla on trio número uno. Old friend Jack Skille has jumped from the fourth line to the second with Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog. John Mitchell is moving down to take Skille's old spot with Mikhail Grigorenko and Cody McLeod, while the third line will consist of Carl Soderberg, Blake Comeau and grizzled vet Alex Tanguay. Defenseman Tyson Barrie is back from a three-game suspension.

NHL.com Preview:

Goalie Reto Berra will make his third start of the season and first since Oct. 18, coach Patrick Roy announced Monday. Berra has split his two starts, making 73 saves on 75 shots (.973 save percentage). Varlamov has lost his past three starts (0-2-1), including 4-3 to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, a game Colorado led by a goal entering the third period. "If we can be a bit better in the decisions we make, these could be wins for us," Roy said in comments Monday tweeted by the Avalanche. "We need to win third periods … manage our games better."
