Matheson and Demers settle for silver

Florida Panthers defensemen Mike Matheson and Jason Demers collected silver medals as Canada fell 2-1 to Sweden in a shootout at 2017 IIHF World Championship in Cologne, Germany. Henrik Lundqvist made 42 saves in regulation and overtime, and did not yield a goal in the shootout.

Matheson registered three shots on goal, took two minor penalties and posted an even rating in 20:52 TOI. Demers logged 25:12 of ice time and also finished with an even rating.

Prospects Sam Brittain and Thomas Schemitsch of the ECHL Manchester Monchester face a do or die situation tonight. The Monarchs must beat the South Carolina Stingrays tonight to force a Game 7 in their Eastern Conference final series.

In Stanley Cup playoff action, the Pittsburgh Penguins chased birthday boy Craig Anderson with four first periods goal en route to a 7-0 romp over the visiting Ottawa Senators. The Penguins lead the series three games to two. Evgeni Malkin anf Carter Rowney each had three assists and Matt Murray made 25 saves.

The Nashville Predators will host the Anaheim Ducks tonight (NBCSN - 8 pm) at Bridgestone Arena. Nashville will advance to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time ever with a win.
